Wastes of Angmar

The Wastes of Angmar is a barren and foreboding desert in the west of Aetheria. The Wastes stretch south and east of the Plains of Angmar, and both Wastes and Plains are named after the desert's most dangerous and reclusive inhabitant, Angmar. In the cliffs at the eastern edge of the desert, there is an extensive hive of formians which extend all the way down into the Underdark. These formians patrol much of the desert and even foray into the Plains beyond looking for food and resources. The desert is also home to a number of dangerous creatures. The most intelligent of these creatures are medusae but other creatures capable of turning flesh to stone such as gorgons, basilisks, and cockatrices are found in this hostile environment as well as manticores. In the west of the desert is an oasis where a rift shard can be found. Also, a dragon known only as Gull lives in the oasis, and will fly travelers to other parts of Aetheria for the right price. There are rumors of another Mystral Ascendancy outpost hidden somewhere in the desert, but if it exists, none of the members of that faction care to reveal its location.
