- Dark Mambas: DC is between 40 and 45; is an assassin that has an ability drain->sleep(1 turn) poison with ~40 DC instead of lolth poison
- Elysian Thrushes: DC=53, before their curse song; is a frail bard with level 32 bard/curse songs, Lasting Inspiration, Evasion, Wounding Whispers, Improved Invisibility, and many Dispel Magics and Cure Critical Wounds per day, but is particularly difficult to get your hands on due to their locale of Elysium.
Rats are considered Vermin and cannot be empathied. Hell Hounds, Hounds of Xvim, Fenhounds, Shadow Mastiffs, Dire Bears, and Ancient Dire Bears are Outsiders and also cannot be empathied.
Because The Circle is friendly to the NPC faction designated as "The Beasts", most of the normal animals on this list are friendly and can be safely approached by any Circle druid or ranger who have this skill and wish to use it. The animals of the Frozen Reach are not friendly (presumably because of the isolation of the Reach from the rest of Aetheria), nor are animals such as the Niragawa Tiger or Bandit Guard Dog, since they are domesticated creatures which belong to normally hostile NPC factions, nor are the epic animals on this list for reasons that shall be left unspecified.
