There was a situation today where I ran to get the MA relic back. I had a family emergency pop up and had to go. My brother was in the room and was playing on NS4 reflections. I told him I had the MA relic and was in Avendell hiding. I told him on my return I'd finish running it, and if there was a problem to just log me out so the relic would drop. Of course, during this whole thing I was being chased by several members of the LA faction who couldn't seem to kill me.

Now, it seems the LA faction members were upset that I was afk hiding with my factions relic. They contacted a DM somehow and the DM pronounced that it was unfair or unsportsman like for me to be in a place where combat was not allowed. I was then teleported somewhere and killed by members of the LA faction so that they could get my factions relic back in their cradle.

I have gone through the boards and the wiki site pretty throughly and found no rules stating that I couldn't stand around in Avendell with my factions relic. The only thing I could find stated that some denzins of the world may not want to be involved in relic raiding. I'm trying to find the document on which this DM based his ruling. If you find it please let me know where it is and I'll go over that very carefully so I do not break any of the rules in the future. I thought I had read all the rules regarding NS4, it would seem I am incorrect.

To the LA faction members. I enjoy the fights we have, whether winning or loosing. Alot of you LA players have alot of pvp experience and are good toon builders. I look forward to having many fights with you, but pooh on you for running to a DM when things wern't going your way. I personally have witnessed you using MANY highly questionable and downright exploitive behaviors where there relics are concerned, and I havn't run to a DM about it. I find ways to fix what you did or spend hours hunting for a relic. You guys seriously need to check yourselves and stop being poor sports when things arn't going your way.

Simple answer:

relics are NOT permitted in avendell or any other neutral area any longer than the time required to run through that area, and to rest and rebuff : aka you are really pushing your luck if you linger more than 3-5 minutes...there is no reason to stay in avendell that long with a relic...if somthing IRL came up, then the safe solution would be to drop that relic outside of the city, or face your attackers rather than running from them

there have been problems regarding relics in avendell in the past, it is not meant to be used as a safe haven and yes it can lead to frustrations on the opposing side, and from what i have read from your post, the DM intervention IMO was completly proper and just.

now here is where common sense is overlooked--i am not trying to be offensive....but reverse the situation in your mind -- if it were me standing in avendell with a relic i dont think anyone in MA would appreciate the fact that they counldnt get their relic back unless i left the city or was teleported by divine intervention.

if you want to go afk with a relic then fine, so be it ....but dont do it in an area where you are 'invincible'....

to have a rule thread this specific would constitute a thread longer than all the posts in the O/T forum combined.

edit::: i have done a bit of resarch for you , if you simply type in "relic" or "relic Avendell" you will find a few interesting threads, this has come up before....i am not going to link them all simply because they are ugly discussions and i dont want issues to resurface that have already been discussed. granted it was not stated explicitly in the original guidlines, but again, all it really requires is a bit of Common Sense.......idling in avendell is going to irritate people.

ok couple of things on this one.

1st. AFK rules would apply here, if indeed it is true you had a family emergency then you would have to go afk for longer than 5 mins. I heard someone complain about being booted because they took a shower without loggin once. OMFG! common sense people.

2nd. Why in the world wouldnt you just handle your real life buisness then worry about the relic, why should anyone else have to be inconvienced just cause you are?

3rd. How do you know a dm ported you unless you werent afk and you were indeed just hiding in ave? How do you know your brother just didnt move you. I smell bs all over this one.

more than likley just an honest mistake.....

#1 i didnt port you anywere
#2 we have rules about long afk
#3 you were afk in avendell with a flag. abusing what avendell is for.
#4 and i could have done more. the punishment i gave you is JUST the punishment for a long afk. not to mention the abuse of avendell.
