Epic defenders from other factions

I ran to AO to recover our SL relic but when I showed up, there were a bunch of Ascendancy Warlocks defending the cradle (yes in AO!) After clearing the room (3x) of all hostile defenders (not the MA ones) I am still unable to recapture our relic, as though the remaining friendly defenders need to be cleared.
When I asked about this on shout, an RR responded that there were also LA sharpshooters in the SL cradle room and others in the RK cradle.
What's going on?

I can verify this, went to check it out myself with fang too. there were 6 MA warlocks in the AO room and we too couldnt take the relic out while they were alive.

correct faction defence doesn't spawn in if you mean are they hostile to the npc's
they are hostile to the players though.

Poor LA sharpshooters, trying to find the way out of the oblivion.

After 8 am reset, all appears to be normal! (meaning the relics are now back in SL
)
