Exclude Shouts

Lately on NS East the shout channel chatter has gotten so bad that I've starting right clicking the chat bar and "exclude shouts" once I've started on an adventure.
All day, every day, how they feel about stuff, what the weather is like, and 1/2 of a conversation they are having with someone else who has the sense to use "tell"
I've said stuff, other people have said stuff, the DMs have said stuff and it still gets worse every day. I give up.
Hate to miss important information I might need, but it's not worth the headache anymore.

Well if I see the shout channel being abused or even used for general chat then I will say something. At that point it should stop. And from what I have seen it usually does.
So take NOTE: Shout is not to be used as your personal chat channel!
If I see this being abused then I will take action

Been a while since I got to do some nice smiting.
I get complaints about shouts, but I pop in throughout the day, and I'm just not seeing them. Take screenies and PM them to a DM.

LOL, of course not. Just talk to some of the ppl who smack the DM chair at the wrong time.
I pop in and out as time permits and haven't seen much shout abuse. And the couple times I gave a warning about it, it stopped almost immediately. So do get screen shots and PM one of us.

I spend lots of time playing and do see a lot of shouts but virtually all are harmless and often make me smile at the dumb things some people like to talk about. Are there any clear rules on the shout channel?

Ya, I'm one of those that smacked the DM chair at the wrong time... Sun was skulking around apparently, and poof, dead.

As stated elsewhere in our forums:
6) The shout function is only for questions and comments about the game and should be used sparingly. Begging and profanity on shout will not be tolerated.
As long as it pertains to the game and Neversummer we won't object. But if it is about anything else, including but not limited to your favorite sports team, music, band, singer, personal life, you can expect to hear from one of us.

i think some1 here is very hurt with some shout... cuzz like anny i play alot and u all know that... yes i see ppl using shout... so what once a while doesn't hurt any1 i think this threads about shouts stuff is useless
what can u do about that disable shout put a dm's doing shifts on the server to secure that no1 abuse from shout ????
the more u complain the more they do...
the solution is to ignore.. or cut the conversation..

or just (maybe) do something about the people who shout the most...i can name one off the top of my head that EVERYONE knows about

u can just ban a person for shout....4ever...i think!
maximum the dm's could eventualy do its to add to script of the if possible a code that
if PLAYERX do X* shout times in 1 or 2 or 3 min will be kicked from the server for 5 min .... and after the 4 or 5 kick get a ban till the server reset....
this is a example..

Whats with all the gripes over shout? If you dont like it, turn it off, people shouldnt be punished for shouting, its there for the server to talk with. If say group to talk then you can do the same and have shout turned off and not ever see it or have to worry about it. Imo its stupid to bash ppl who use something that is in the game. Whats next? Cant use classes in builds or certain items?

Every server has different shout rules. Some servers disable it entirely.
NS is actually fairly reasonable about shouts IMO.
Particularly East. We have the reputation for being the noisiest NS server, in large part because the East DM team actually enjoys player interaction.
No rule on NS is arbitrary. *All* the rules are in place to maximize the enjoyment of the game *for the largest number of people.*
What it comes down to is consideration for the other folks you are playing with. Every time you spam shout you are saying "this is important enough that 33 other folks need to hear it." While it's easy enough to say "if you don't like it, turn it off," that's beside the point.
Yes. Shout can be turned off - but doing so means you may miss things you *do* consider important: like the odd event, or a friend needing a rez, or whatever.
If you just want to chat - that's what party chat exists for - or tells.
To say everyone has to put up with one or two folks who choose to use shout as a general chat channel is basically to endorse the small minority who seem to believe their own personal concerns far outweigh the need to be considerate of those we are playing with.
And that won't be tolerated on East.
Nuff said.
