Rules/Expected behavior

I'd like to respectfully request that the rules in the journals be updated to include the rules here on boards
So I wont go around breaking them without knowing it
Seriouslly though not every one who plays visits the forums and not all who visit forums realize that rules = expected behavior, so they sometimes get missed, if players had a clear copy right there in game they'd be less likelly to break them.

What particular rule would you have just been in violation of that you believe you were not aware of?
Just think of camping a Boss map, it may not be a specific rule that is spelled out in the minds of some people. However it most assuredly is a rule since in order to camp a boss map you have to exploit the system to get a respawn. So the camping of boss maps is in fact a rule that many feel free to overlook until caught by a DM.
Play the game as an adventure game and not a monopoly type game where he with the most riches wins and you will have played the game as it was intended in my opinion and not stepped out of the boundries of the rules.
If this module was the only one being worked on by the dev team your request would be an easier fix but our dev team is pretty wrapped up trying to provide us with a new mod for NWN2 that meets the high standards that we as players of NS have grown accustomed to.

DM ex Machina wrote:Here are our basic rules and guidelines:
1) All players with "DM" in front of their names are the peacekeepers and arbitrators of the NS modules. If they tell you to do or not to do something, their word is final. If you do not understand what they are saying, consult this post and consider your past actions. It's likely that they are referring to one of the guidelines posted here.
2) Stealing from other players is not acceptable behavior. This includes using the pickpocket skill (PPing) and also picking up items from the ground which do not belong to you. Please remember that there are people behind the players, and they don't like to lose items for which they have worked.
3) Killstealing (KSing) is when you attack a mob that another player is already engaged with. This is also against the rules. This is a form of theft. Instead of stealing items, you are stealing experience points. If you accidentally do this, run away from the mob and send the player a message saying "sorry."
4) Killing another player (PKing) is strictly forbidden. Duels are allowed only by consent and only in the arena.
5) Passing another player on the way to EC or in one of the EC areas is forbidden. These areas are linear, so passing someone is the same as killstealing. This applies to every area past the Sepithat map off of the Nexus. However, it is possible that the player in front of you is only leveling and won't mind your passing. Just ask.
6) The shout function is only for questions and comments about the game and should be used sparingly. Begging and profanity on shout will not be tolerated.
7) Some items have level restrictions, which means you must have a minimum level to pick them up. Most G1/LP/Sabar items require a level of at least 18. Most NS items require a level of 23.
Camping a boss is unacceptable. This includes both waiting for the boss to spawn after you've already kill him/her and logging out after killing a boss with the intention to log back in after the boss has spawned.
9) Begging is generally unacceptable. Do not stand in the center of Neversummer City and ask people for equipment.
Once again, welcome to Neversummer. We wish you a thoroughly enjoyable gaming experience.
Actually my first sentence was meant as a joke...now that I've read the rules I wont be breaking them by accident or otherwise, but since humor seems to be lost on you atm...it was actually rule number 5 that got me to look for the rules...Because I was fustrated with a camper who imho was blocking the ec loop which is a linear path by camping a zone on it...I asked the person "Are you camping this area?" and they ignored me and ran off...So I passed them knowing they were as I also passed thier unlooted remains...I thought at the time I was in the right by doing so but was told I was not and I should come here to find the rules...so I did...
Now while I realize I did infact break the rule by going ahead, apparentlly I also abided by it without knowing by asking if the fool was camping before passing him...So I wasnt playing it like monopoly I was infact trying to adventure and got blocked by a monopoly player I guess...
Any who...It was merelly a suggestion sorry if it offended you
although I must say I made other suggestions that are clearlly alot more time consuming for devs to consider but you didnt respond to those at all...

First off, if you notice a player camping an area they cannot deny you passage. Knowing this you must still ask them if you can pass. If ignored then you may simply run by. If they say no you must wait in line. The camper has two options. They move forward so that you may continue on your way or they let you pass so they can continue camping that area (as long as it isnt a boss). Secondly, as for your last comment about us not getting back to you on some of your other posts.... Well we simply do not have the time to put into NS 3.5 right now since we are trying to get NS5 started with NWN2. There are many things you can nit pick and find wrong with any server. We have been slowly but surely improving the mod for everyone as much as we can. Unfortunately we havent the time to finish NS3.5 so lets just enjoy it while its there. There will probably still be a few minor changes but for the most part, its done.

I concur..... posting the expected behavior to the journal is needed as etiquette on the EC run has gotten to the point where people not only show a genuine disrespect for others but have gotten down right nasty. All too many times I have experienced people running by, KSing or camping. Rarely do people ask if they can pass. Im not saying mistakes dont happen I have accidentaly KSed, and when I do I dont hesitate to apologize. Its the people that dont apologize, the ones that run by without asking and the people that log out or camp in eye of the beholder or arrows point and are on the same map when you make a second and third loop that Im talking about.
As for the XP campers that are playing XP monopoly all I have to say is if you cant handle doing the full EC loop or are unwiling to suffer the consequences of dieing at the hands of Azars, then you should find another place to level. It is rude and inconsiderate to find someone on the same map 2 and 3 times in a linear area like the EC run. And it does seem ridiculous to be expected to ask these people if you can pass after the 2nd time of encountering them on the same map since they arent leaving the map anyway.
I suggest that if you are leveling on the EC run and you get to the first map and there are no spawns that you be expected to wait until that map respawns before you continue to the next area...it is obvious that there is someone in front of you and disrespectful for you to infinge on their leveling just for your own benift.
As for response that the Devs are too busy, I say honestly how much effort does it take to cut and paste these rules into the journal?

Well if you are having problems with whomever or are confused about certain rules ASK a DM. We are here to make sure things run smooth. That is we smack those who need it and then we help those who do need it. and Elric the last comment is not needed either they are BUSY!!!

When you look at the sheer volume of material that has been updated on Neversummer, you shouldn't be complaining. Just in the last year or so, new dwarven areas past Tagnar, North Pole, new underdark, Arranox Plains, Twilight, Star Fall, etc., etc., etc. And not to mention the dozen or so quests involved in those areas, the dozens of new item drops, the dozens of revisions of those areas to improve game balance or whatever, and the dozens of old areas reworked. I assume a great portion of the changes in the last year went unnoticed because they included several alterations of pre-existing areas and/or items from those areas. Many of the newer players don't remember how some of the old areas looked and so don't realize just how much has been changed. For a server that is suppose to be in its final stages because of the building of NWN2 and the new version beyond NS4, we have had a lot of attention. And I still see some growth in the number of players in game. Granted, there are many things I run into during game that I think really deserves fixing or reworking. However, I have no legitimate complaints because my cup doth runneth over. So thank you Devs and DMs for making this such an active and fun game. I don't say this lightly to stroke anyone's ego. The number of hours I've spent in the game the past year is an indicator of just how much I enjoy myself in the game and appreciate the work that was put into it.
P.S. And just because my cup is full, I certainly won't mind if the DMs keep filling it up, I'll just have to drink faster
. Good Hunting and cya in the game.

Actually if you asked the player if they were camping and got no response and then went on ahead I find it very hard to see where you broke any rule, written or unwritten. Of course your method of asking may not been to his/her likeing but you did ask thier intentions before procedeing on. If they decide not to answer thats thier issue to deal with, you asked before moveing on and thats pretty much all you can do.
They have no right to impede your progress towards EC through actions or inactions when camping a map for XP.

I was the DM involved.
There were two different parties that pm'd me in game, almost simultaneously, with the same complaint in different areas on the EC run. Since there were multiple complaints, I talked to Asylvan and recommended he read the forums for further explanation of the rules. This ends the problem as far as I am concerned.

Yes problem is solved, I merelly came here to offer up a suggestion...This is after all the Ideas and Suggestions forum

this is the ideas and suggestions topic, and we welcome the ideas. We wont always have time to get to them right away or in this case with NS5 we have no time at all. But there is a difference in suggestions and snide remarks. your post started out as a suggestion and at the end you felt the need to add this comment.
Any who...It was merelly a suggestion sorry if it offended you although I must say I made other suggestions that are clearlly alot more time consuming for devs to consider but you didnt respond to those at all...
its these kinds of things that we dont like to see. after all we have been putting alot of effort into NS over the past year to make it a better place for everyone.

And I, for one, really appreciate it! I would elaborate but I think my good friend dbosity covered it quite thoroughly!

And....when and if the journal gets updated can we include a password to enter this forum so that only people that play NS post here. I have noticed and have become aware of the growing problem with pornographers posting links to thier sites here. It is my understanding that the DM team has been dealing with this nonsense for a while now and shouldnt have to be burdened with constantly having to remove these posts.
