Hacked Again

We were hacked again last night. A few good things came of this as I happened to be online when he came back to do it again and caught him at it.

1: I found his access and deleted it. This isnt saying that he has added himself in another place.

2: He really was from Turkey as he claimed, there is now an IP ban in place for that entire country. Seems harsh but I take his threat to come back seriously. If you know of a player from that country let them know that they can email problems to any of the DM team, but that country will not be unlocked.

3: The backup I had of the NS3 forums was corrupt, however it doesnt appear that any of the player or guild forums were affected. Our DM forums however are a mess and some of the information will probably be unrecoverable.

If anyone has issues with the forums, bugs, lost passwords, notice missing information, ANYTHING odd, please PM or email me immeadiatly. Please note PMs will get me quicker, I dont check my email as often as I should.

When I first tried to log onto the NS3 forums, I got the ns4 forums. Not sure if it is related or not.

I do have the same logon and password for both forums.

Your servant,

It was related, although it was my fault. I was using the NS4 settings as referance when I was trying to get far enough ahead of the guy to kick him out. I copied one of the settings that was specific to NS4 over. *sheepish grin*

I wasn't able to access NS4 forums, I clicked on it and it said NS4 forums currently unavailable, or something close to that.

If this hacker is any sort of web magician, blocking Turkey is kind of pointless.

Anyone can post from anywhere in the world, if you know where to look and how to do it. I won't post it here, just in case, but I do it all the time because of how work's network is and what they allow and don't allow through the firewall.

I dont know you guys.. but everything on my end says

Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

as soon as I click on the NS3 and NS4 forums, except this thread.. odd..

All the avatars are marked with the evil red X except those uploaded from outside sources.

This is frustrating.. if you get his full IP.. let me know.. we can always spike his system *enable twisted evil smilie here*

If there is a denial of service vulnerability on the servers end.. this will allow the lowlife to send a specially crafted RDP packet in order to crash the forums. If its RDP, its a matter of memory limitations which causes the whole server to crash. This is a security protocol violation and is highly punished though.

Let me know if you need any help.. I can back up forum stuff for you if you need me to. I will be glad to help.

refreshing a few times can get u thru the other threads ... all but the dm's should prob wait til the attack is over ta visit tho... not that anything we do on our end can come close to the DOS sucking bandwith and all....
