What is required to be a dm?

What are the requirements to be a dm? I personally am not interested, but i have seen a great player,and good person talk about wanting to be a dm ever since i first started playing on neversummer 3.5 east. I just wanted to be able to tell them what steps to take to be a dm. I am sorry if the has already come up, i'm kind of new here.

DMs, best I can tell, know an awful lot about the game, maps and areas. They play a lot. A lot. They are very helpful with other players.

Follows rules, plays, knows what they are doing playing and DMing, and many other schtuff but you can't really "apply" to be a dm i don't think if they need a DM and they like you they will ask.... i think

It doesn't hurt to be on good terms with the other current DMs. They'll never ask you to be a DM if they don't know who you are. Being mature and level-headed even with people you don't like (and with NS's player base there will be a few you won't like) helps a lot.

Rules? Best I can tell, DMs consider them "guidelines".
