Yeah, keep meaning to post updates, but I usually would rather work on moving it forward than doing PR work. Wish we had someone who could act as our liaison to provide some more content and updates...
This week, as an example of progress, things that were accomplished were:
- Dozen plus creatures and their gear made
- Probably about a dozen maps had spawn groups made for them
- Custom stores created with a custom in-game GUI and a web based database management system for it
- 3 exterior maps completed
- Probably about 12+ maps checked for quality assurance and their transitions fixed
Plan, in short, is to do some internal Alpha testing here soon with some staff and then open it up to Alpha testing for some select players after that to have a shakedown cruise.
Can't give you any exact dates - probably ever.
But, it's getting closer and closer - and it's looking very good.

I hear there's a third expansion set plan for NWN 2. Are you going to wait for that before going beta?

NWN2 - Third Expansion Possible?
The latest NWN Podcast includes an interview with John Mamais and Raphaƫl Boyon from Atari Europe. Among the questions asked are the release of Mysteries of Westgate, to which the response is "we're currently reworking our online strategy" but that "could be subject to change and we could release it sooner than later".
On the subject of another NWN2 expansion pack, John responds "We don't have anything signed but we are discussing doing another expansion pack with the team. And I'm pretty sure it's gonna happen." Presumably the "team" is Obsidian.
Chatting with members of Atari's European team, the fan-run Neverwinter Nights Podcast revealed that discussions are going on for such an expansion pack. There's no word on who would develop the expansion but it's not a stretch to believe that Obsidian Entertainment, who created the original game and the first two expansions, is ready to make the third as well..
After releasing two expansion packs for Neverwinter Nights 2, Atari is seems to stop nowhere with the ongoing game. Developer Atari has decided to further expand the game by announcing third expansion pack for it.
No news regarding the Neverwinter Nights 2 upcoming expansion pack is available and it is expected to be released in the fall 2009 or dawn of 2010. Well there have already been two expansion packs: Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer and Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir. You can subscribe to our RSS feeds to know more about the game as soon as news is available.
But then I've also read:
Sources tell Kotaku that Sega has pulled the plug on their upcoming Aliens Roleplaying Game under development by California-based developer Obsidian.
We've also been told that Obsidian, no longer working on the Sega project, laid off more than 20 people last night. With lack of official confirmation from anyone at the two companies involved, take this with a grain of salt.
Aliens Roleplaying Game was a title that Obsidian said would be "instilled with the action of Aliens and the terror of Alien" and take place in the "heart of science fiction horror." The title was under development for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
Obsidian, located in Irvine, first worked on Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. They also created a number of Neverwinter Nights 2 expansion packs.
That's what I've read anyhow....

All I can add to this is that I know for a fact that the NS5 guys work on it every day, 7 days a week. Zone by zone, critter by critter, each piece of gear etc.
You should see the tech chatter that goes on and that's when things are working.

Well, now I'm reading the Mysteries of Westgate is gonna be the "expansion" and/or adventure pack that they've been sitting on for awhile. There is a lot more information posted now, compared to when I originally posted about a third expansion. Not sure what anyone else knows about it, but it certainly seems more official now.
Just google NWN2 Mysteries of Westgate and you'll see what I'm seeing.
I'm guessing they are thinking they can make more money making it an expansion, rather than an adventure pack as they originally planned.

There also might be a 3rd expansion released by Obsidian as well - still waiting to hear what the verdict is going to be on that.
Along those lines, a 'developer' copy of the Purgatorio mod was released last week that had an enormous amount of custom content in it, which is also free for us to use. We've already incorporated the tilesets into our mod...

I assure you, we ARE making progress!
Three of us are working on creature creation and spawns at the moment, which is our current roadblock on the path to an alpha - we are getting close to having enough encounters to make an alpha possible. Lots of other work continues on maps, merchants, database control...we're not sitting idle. "Soon" has never been more true.

Now that alpha is getting close, has anyone determined how people will invited to the alpha "premiere"?

At this rate, we'll prob see NS5 come out the same day D3 is released.
Yeah, that'll go over well -snerk-
Though i wouldnt mind with the alpha testing. Im prob buying the 1st and 2nd expansion in a cple weeks, just so i can be ready for NS5 when it does go live.
And my new pc certainly is up for the task
