Among the many wondrous artifacts that may be found in the realm, there are a number of books which will increase a character's ability scores. These books use Leto to give a permanent increase to a character's non-magical ability score, and a character may only use a specific book once; after that, the book is destroyed, and the character cannot again use the same book to boost that score, although if the book in question is a +2 book, you are able to then use a +4 book of the same stat to increase it again by an additional +2 points, for +4 points in total. Using a book requires a character to have achieved a certain level first, and using the book entails an experience point cost. The book must be used near a rift shard. Once used, the character does not benefit from the experience cost until the character relogs. Books can enable you to qualify for feats that you would otherwise not be able to get, and the effects of books persist through death, server resets, and delevelling to level 1.

+2 books are very rare items, and +4 books are very rare in comparison to +2 books.
