I want Isaac's Greater Missile Storm back!
This may be just beating a dead horse, but I'm officially announcing my desire to have Isaac's Greater Missile Storm returned to its previous glory.
The fact is, casters do not have any good spells for dishing out raw damage. If I can't kill a foe with Wail of the Banshee or Finger of Death, then I'm pretty much screwed if there is more than one enemy coming after me.
Even when there is only one target, I still can use every one of my damage spells (as a level 33wiz/1rog) and not even dent my opponent. I just don't see why IGMS was nerfed so much while we have fighter/WM/XXX classes who can deal out knockdowns and 70-150+ critical hits an infinite amount of times.
Also, if IGMS isn't going to change, then perhaps we can improve some of the lesser-used level 6-9 spells that currently are worthless, eg:
1) improve meteor swarm
2) allow black blade of disaster to be used
3) make great thunderclap knock down opponents for more than 1 round
4) fix delayed blast fireball so not only ONE goes off when you've laid out a few of them
5) etc.

I use Horrid often and no complains there. I'll have to try the firebrand and lightning bolt but those are also useless against anyone with evasion.
Chase, I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say.
If they have evasion their fort is prob low and in this case WAIL them .....or any death magic for that matter since their save wotnt ba s high as lets sasay a fighter where you can bigsbies and the firebrand or what not for the win.
Their are lots o ways around it ... you just need to learn to play a mage properly
and yeah i think other classes need to be fixed first considering mages are STILL the strongest class out there.
My level 27 sorc/pali/sd (i know its cheese) can take out a level 40. as long as its not another mage And that shouldnnt happen that easy.
WHO exactly 'told' you this??? I don't see it anywhere on the boards, I think you guys just make things up to suit your own purposes, or perhaps it's all that under age drinking.KST_HAVOK wrote:hey try a couple of these spells next time you are a mage...

So, here, as you guys just proved -- YOU STILL DO LOSE XP FOR SUMMONS PKing:
^--ouch 1600xp lost at lvl32.
And yep, mages are still super powerful look at what that summons did to me - that on top of igms, horrids and bigby?!!, But still, I say LEAVE THEM exactly the way they are (but do please fix the xp loss bug) and make changes to the other classes (which I am exploring now with others).
We're all impressed that a mage shadowdancer monk can pwn, lets see some more creativity from you guys ;]

I'm not really talking about PvP -- my mage doesn't have any problems with PvP that prevent me from doing damage against a reasonable number of opponents. I'm just saying that I get frustrated when I'm fighting certain groups of monsters because they are impossible for me to kill by myself where, for other melee classes, they can just sit there and chip away at them one by one.
But I guess that is just the nature of being a spell caster -- limited spells. Still, show me a wizard/sorc build that is efficient in PvM without Wail of the Banshee or some other area of effect death spell, and I'll be quiet.

Fighter/WM deals consistent, reliable damage and knockdowns as you said. But they don't have dev crit, so they can't do instant death. And besides whirlwind they don't have a very efficient form of AOE.
So you're telling me mages need a way of doing mass area and single mob death spells, AND deal massive aoe damage as well?
Did I mention most fighters don't exactly have many buffs, let alone immunity buffs? Listen. By playing a mage you gain some benefits and give up some abilities. Just the same as being any other class.
Casting druids ROCK, and they dont have wail OR weird. And all of their AOE spells minus creeping doom require a reflex save. Yet they get by just fine.
