I have a certain character that is going to end up with Cleric 6, Bard 3, Prestige X. I was wondering what would be the lesser of two penalties: Taking Drow subrace and have an ECL of +3...or staying with plain Elf and having the multi-class penalty.

There is no multiclass penalty other than not receiving your XP bonus at level for you preferred class.

As far as I kow you get 10% of the required xp for you next level anytime you take a level in your preferred class or a prestige class.

Why was this changed? My druid x / monk 1 / rogue 3 is now receiving 16 XP per kill, instead of 20. This is exactly a 20% loss...

The 20% exp penalty for more than 1 non prefered class, thats been in NWN forever.

Oh rats - I was under the impression that NS was calculating XP for multiclassed characters differently and wasn't penalizing them for 2 classes outside of their favored class. No wonder my level 23 wood elf ranger/fighter/shadow dancer is getting 10 xp per rat now and my level 23 human pali/fighter/CoT is getting 13... I'm going to have to kill 1/3 more rats with my ranger!

the 20% xp loss might be equivalent to an ecl of 2. I had a druid 3 bard 1 and noticed the xp loss and took next level in bard and my xp went way up. By the time I was druid 3/ bard 3 I was getting the same xp as I was at level 4 (was killing gargoyles thru those levels). However, although the drow favored class is cleric you wll still get the xp penalty as it only gives the level up bonus xp but for multiclassing it uses base race favored class. In my example I had a wild or wood elf (whichever has druid favored class) and this didn't stop he xp penalty. Why not go human and get level xp and no penalty? Unless you're going AA, then the drow would be way to slow to level up, go without the ecl.
