Potential New Player

Post by Rev_Killjoy »

So I've recently become disenchanted with my current NWN server (again) and did some sleuthing around. I saw NS4 on the PW Action list and it had people on it, so that was a bonus for me. I enjoy building characters, obtaining power and wealth where it is available, and the (very) occasional roleplay. NS4 seemed, initially, to be a place I could enjoy myself. After reading the documentation forums, it sounds like there are some really cool custom things implemented here. Subraces, the faction system (particularly sweet), the custom merchants, and others.

However, after reading -this- forum, I'm a little worried. Seems like an awful lot of drama for a place thats not a purist roleplay server (you wanna see drama.... lol). So I want to be honest here and I want y'all to be honest with me. I'm not some punk kid, I'm in my late 20's and I play for fun. Is this place worth my time? I love some of the things you have going, and I'd love to be a part of it all. But I've had about all the silly drama I can take at the moment, lol (hence why I'm leaving -another- server in 6 months).

I know how these things go, and I know that drama stuff is much more likely to be posted on forums than anything else, so I'm not -too- worried. Thoughts?

ADDED: Oh, additionally, is there a list anywhere with what has been nerfed? I'd like to get a feel for things before I plan a character out. Also, it sounded like CEP was being considered at one point...whats the status on that? Implemented? Not but maybe? Never? I have the latest CEP, so its no big deal. I just like to know.

we have a change log in the news and announcements. there is also a player run wiki with some good info on it.

as far as the drama...you'll find it in any game you ever play online. the amount you take it is usually dependent on how much you take heed to it.

Excellent point, and I do appreciate you pointing that out. Guess I really shouldn't talk too much until I give it a go, hm?

As for the change log and wiki, on my way to check them out now ;)

As for CEP, Neversummer does not use it and has no plans for using it.

Since your a builder, I strongly suggest reading the entire NS4 Change Log. 19 glorious pages of Tedious reading, yes, but very necessary for effective toons.

Next, back that knowledge up with a thorough viewing of the Neversummer 4 Documentation forum. (Playable Races being the most popular thread)
http://www.nsrealm.com/public/ns/viewforum.php?f=23

Then bookmark the NS4 Wiki. Too much info in that thing, imo, but it is player run and they have done a fine job over the years.

BTW, I would like to give a shout out to all those players who have ever worked on the NS4 Wiki, Thank you!

Here's a few things to keep in mind :
1 NS4 is Aetheria, and Aetheria is at war
2 This is a PvP, as well as a PvM server
3 DMs actively encourage PvP activities
4 RP is encouraged, but by no means enforced

Now, as far as the drama goes.....Well, think of it this way. If our players are passionate about our server, what does that tell you? It tells me that this is a damn good NWN1 server.

Now you're speaking my language :D. The Change Log I've been through a bit so far (about the first 3 and last 4 pages, I'm working on it!). The wiki has been a companion of mine for the last day or so. And I've been reading through the documentation forum for a few days now. I intend to continue all three - there's a lot to know about NS4.

Your last point in italics is rather key to me. I did hope that there would be -some- level of RP here. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to spend my days standing outside of an inn. But I've seen servers where RP was actively -discouraged-. And that doesn't do anything for me either.

I'll be around soon enough :D. Just as soon as I absorb as much info from those sources as I can. Thank you all for being so helpful, and especially to that bloke who sent me the PM...I'll be chatting with you!
