ive recently started playing around with traps and its basically given me a new lease on the game, something interesting to play with as ive gotten pretty bored with grinding out lvls and fighting the same people with the same builds over and over.
recently ive discovered my traps have caused people xp loss, im not sure if this is supposed to happen or not or if this means i basically cant use them because it goes against the rules of the server.
is it possible to make it so that traps dont cause xp loss? id really hate to see them banned because theyve been a lot of fun but i dont want to cause xp loss for anyone, also, im not fond of being accused of deliberately causing people xp loss and slandered on shout, gets real old, real quick.
if possible would someone be able to clarify the rules on traps for me.
would appreciate any feedback

Traps causing xp loss has been known about for a LONG time. It wont cause it every time, but it seems to cause xp loss more than not. Maybe another items for the list of the new dev ';)

do some experimenting and see what exaclty causes the xp loss
as i remember once i think if you stay in the same zone as your trap and not leave it won't cause xp...but if you transition it flags it as unowned and xp takes the hit. not sure though

Logging out, relogging, DE'ing(out dated), death by the trapper will cause xp loss if it causes death to the trapped.
I tested these last year some time . Death was the only one that wasn't 100% effective on xp loss.
I suggest also that epic traps should have a higher search modifier on them. Not sure how low it is but 50 search was way more than enough to search them.

well on one of them i placed the traps and stayed in the room, it still ended up causing xp loss, although they didnt die from the death effect of the trap but rather the cumulative damage of the traps

I did notice when I lost xp to traps that it listed the damage being done by "Someone" and that I was killed by "Someone". Had I noticed this I would not have respawned since I obviously was going to lose xp.

from what i can tell the xp loss is caused when the toon in question dies via damage taken from the trap, not from the death effect of the trap itself

ill farm more components and do some more experiments, ill post a list of my results here

Maybe just make it so traps (from anywhere) dont cause respawn penalty, I think it would benefit more in PvP than it could possibly be expoited with someone wandering by themselves.

That might be about the only way, engine just doesn't handle them well.
Also there's two trap components that don't drop, some other iffy things.
