Chat commands

Post by Korr »

I figured I would leave this broad, but just had a few ideas for some chat commands that the devs could consider adding, lets see what other ones we can come up with here? I dont know how hard they are to implement, so immediate implementation would be based on that as we all know the Devs have a plenty large work load as it is. If its easy enough however, maybe they would get bored of drilling over some of their other activities to put a few in.

Racial Abilities, whether implemented as say "/racial" or more specific-dependant "/drow" or "/darkness" or "/blur", whatever.

Pure Class benefits, this I would think to be more specific by nature : "/immovable" "/bloody roar"

Unique Class/Prestige Class bonus(es) : "/detect alignment" "/ethereal"

Those were just some examples of the long list of pure class, racial, and unique abilities. I also understand if there are some issues with if theyre implemented from a chat command being a free action when the devs dont want them to be, such as the combonation of "/immovable" "/warlods might" do give a fighter +20 disc then attempt a KD on all close by . . . done purely with text commands as a free action. But those were just a few thoughts while smoking a cig.

I'm not against adding more chat commands, but a few comments:

-Chat commands are free actions, so balance can be an issue. Sometimes spending a round is a good tradeoff for a cool ability.
-Targeting can be an issue (using diary perhaps), anything that requires you to target someone/something is probably better off being token-based.

Yeah I figured as much on the free action and the targeting, which is why I mentioned only things that are self applied. And specifically mentioned the free action thing.

Ok heres a few more suggestions for the chat commands.

Paladins (I believe) are supposed to free action detect evil, can we get a "/detect" chat command for those with the token to detect alignment?

Also how about a "/save" command instead of using the diary (which you cant use mid-battle, and sometimes just doesnt like you)

Well saving is so weak I'm not sure if it would even help... I still recommend relogging every 45 min to an hour... its not guaranteed either, but its far superior than assuming the diary is helping.

have you seen some of the names out there? easier to just use the book with those lol. i like the idea, is there a way to do /identify and get the pointer so you can choose the object?

If drawing up a pointer is possible off a chat entry, then I think that /counterspell would be an awesome inclusion. I can't seem to find a way to quickslot it to the tray, continually have to use the radial commands on a target when I want to counter.

i believe hotbaring counterspell was actually taken out of the game by bioware due to an exploit.

Personally, I don't see the benefit of adding a chat command for something that can be in a quickslot. Why would you type /blur when you can just as easily hit the F9 key. /recall is a good usage because it is self targeted and involves 3 keystokes to execute manually with your journal. /identify falls under this same scenario. I don't believe any other suggestions thus far fall into this same scenario.

I would like to see chat commands used for features like /buff and other utilities/shortcuts rather than being just another way to access something that is already easy to access.

My point with the detect alignment, was that using the item is not a free action (as it normally is for paladins) to detect alignment.

detect evil is supposed to be at best a standard action according to regular pnp rules. actually its an at will invocation of the detect evil spell, so its a bit more complicated (but still does not qualify as a free action):

from d20srd.org
paladin wrote: Detect Evil (Sp)

At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell.
detect evil spell wrote: Detect Evil
Divination
Level: Clr 1
Components: V, S, DF
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: 60 ft.
Area: Cone-shaped emanation
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 min./ level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

You can sense the presence of evil. The amount of information revealed depends on how long you study a particular area or subject.

1st Round
Presence or absence of evil.

2nd Round
Number of evil auras (creatures, objects, or spells) in the area and the power of the most potent evil aura present.

If you are of good alignment, and the strongest evil aura’s power is overwhelming (see below), and the HD or level of the aura’s source is at least twice your character level, you are stunned for 1 round and the spell ends.

3rd Round
The power and location of each aura. If an aura is outside your line of sight, then you discern its direction but not its exact location.
heh, the stun effect if theres too much evil would be a hoot.
