THUNDERDOME

For those that are new, you may have seen the word "Thunderdome" tossed around on the Shout channel. Thunderdome is a specially designed zone where 2 players enter for a PvP contest, and the winner walks out, while the defeated PC gets deleted. The reason Thunderdome came to be, is as a means to settle disputes in game, where arguments reached a flame level. It has been very successful in keeping things clam in that respect. As the saying goes: "2 men enter, 1 man leaves."

For those who are experienced players in NS4.

Thunderdome as stated is designed to stop flame wars and settle disputes. IT IS NOT DESIGNED TO START FLAME WARS AND CAUSE A DISPUTE!!!

We have received complaints that this is what is happening. Some players feel so good about their builds that in their arrogance, they are now trying to start personal flame wars over Shout channel while being the first one to shout "Thunderdome" when there was absolutely no reason for the challenge. This can be viewed as a form of Harassment. This is also not the first time that I have seen this happen.

I ask that players respect Thunderdome, what it means and what it is designed for. Do not use it as a form of Harassment or a way to start Flame Wars. You never know, the one you challenge maybe me and my whip.

I have come to believe that "flame wars" are just something that come with online games. They used to bother me and indeed even made me take a short leave from NS. In that time however I came to realize that I, like every other player have a choice.

A choice to ignore it. You see if you choose to ignore those who would shout non-sense and babble eventually they will go away. It’s no fun to shout to yourself, it’s the response that feeds them.

So I purpose rather than telling those who would shout to not do so, we encourage those who would respond and make the situation worse to hold their tongue. Instead of fighting the outspoken folk of which there will always be at least one, stop the one arrogant shout from becoming a "flame war" by not giving that situation any ammunition.

However If the hole server or the majority of the server is participating in yelling "THUNDERDOME" then honestly what’s the problem? Since if the whole server is doing it it must mean that they are enjoying themselves and after all that is the purpose of NS4 in the end, to enjoy ones self while showing mild respect to the other players.

To sum it up the easiest way I say this, the staff here at NS4 is not parents, legal guardians or player’s grandmothers. A player always, I say again ALWAYS, has the ability to ignore shout with 2 clicks of their mouse. There is never any reason one should go to a dm and complain about what is said over shout unless it is slanderous or someone is using foul language.

Anyway just my 2 cents from a players perspective.

I agree with Mgrjebbo. Quite frankly, flaming is part of internet culture, and as far removed as NS is from the bowels of the internet, it is still part of the internet, and thus, flaming is inevitable. That's not to say there isn't a line, because of course there is, but compared to a lot of the internet NS is a very nice place to be.

I personally think that the taunts are just what makes NS great, the competition is awesome here. And as Mgrjebbo said, you can always ignore it with 2 clicks of your mouse. But personally, I love saying things on shout too much to ignore it, even if it does get on my nerves sometimes.
