The Greatest Item Ever: recalculate max hps
Heh, nope, binkyuk, you are certainly right if you don't see any META-gaming there. Although some just react a bit harsh to changes.
Even if I - playing a barbarian - wouldn't loose much if the haste would be diminished, I don't see any reason either why it should be changed. But then again, Im not the one fighting a barbarian usually...
I'm in general glad you keep making it fun to come back to Aetheria... Even if it is changes that affect my "cheating" like not being able to use the Anvil anymore to refill the wands &c.

bink: i think the meta gaming comment was directed at a barb who rerolled their hps every level.
Whoever said it takes 45 seconds to reroll must be the luckiest guy on the planet. if a simple script can save even 45 seconds (though i've gone more like 45 minutes) that are then refocussed onto the game itself, why not? its such a no brainer that nwn2 does it automatically.
zing: it would be just as good to have ANY fixed xp system: the suggestion to grant 3/4 hps automatically would work fine as far as player time and convenience.
however, to what extent are current enemies/zones calibrated towards toons with max hit points? i.e. amazons, ragnar, etc. would the challenge of existing zones be thrown out of whack?
I think anyone who is against max hit points for RP reasons should consider whether they themselves reroll hit points. Because if you do then you don't walk the walk. By keeping it as an optional use via journal or quest or what have you, those that wish to RP and keep random hit points can continue to do so.
Lastly, some folks dont seem to realize that while this server does not stand in the way of those who want to rp, this is not an RP server. At it's core this is demonstrably NOT a development target.
1. no limit on non rp toon names
2. transfer chests for guilds but nobody else. (you could rp this as a bank, or a locker, but here its 'meta for guilds')
3. no limitation on non rp shout (or even blanket bans on shout)
4. no problems with Dwarven Defenders xp-ing off Ragnar and his guards
5. you can party with faction enemies without losing faction status.
6. etc.
now, this is still the best & most fun nwn server i've played on, don't get me wrong. All of the things i mentioned above are the right choices because it adds to the action. Roleplay is the flavor, not the meal. So I recommend against rejecting changes solely on an RP basis, because it makes for an inconsistent application of design philosophy (plus it makes it real hard to come up with suggestions if we can't tell what tone they should take).
i.e. Don't reserve the 'not RP!' stick only for the things you don't like for other reasons.

There is a rp reason for the RK dwarfs hunting in dwarfhome. But it is certainly not obvious. And I don't want to spoil the fun to find it out on yourself
.
Though the rest are all valid points, I still don't see why somebody would care that much about the hp rerolling. Sure, me too, I hate it as hell. But there are really more pressing matters atm.

Oh...sorry...I thought I was in the Max Hitpoints thread...

and so this is not a spam useless post
45 min to roll hp? please dont exaggerate the longest its ever taken me is maybe 3 min and that was with a barbarian with 20 con and toughness some tips to save time are dont allocate skill points until they hit intervals of 5 try rolling your level in combat when your ( if a ftr type ) just watching your guy hack away .. or dont level untill you hit town unless theres a specific feat that will make you that much more powerful at that level .. you were doing fine before and can continue to do so and hold off leveling till latter.

i completely disagree with max hp...i don't reroll. on any char i've ever made i've never rerolled. i can lvl my char in the middle of a fight and never miss a beat.
if you think my chars are substandard because i don't min/max my hp...ask someone who has fought a few. they can hold their own. its in your style, not your life.
as far as DE....i didn't like it, i don't like dragons or teleportation. i came in at the start and think everyone should walk wherever they are going.

i always level up 'on the run' in combat. it took me that long once on a complex level (skills, stat, feats, spells) before i figured out that sometimes it's impossible to get the roll unless you log out and log back in (i've noticed that effect most with subrace characters.) on a wizard level, no less.
maybe its just blind luck but 90% of the time when somebody has problems getting their hit points i tell them to log out/log back in and they get it on their first or second pull. hellooo nwn random number generator!
And yes, i know that a good player can kill people with nothing but a sharp stick and a bad attitude. yet i would counter that a good player with 450 hit points will be at a substantial disadvantage to a good player with 800 hit points, all other things being equal. So the vast majority of players will choose to be the guy with 800 hp.

while this is certainly a low priority quality of life issue (which is why i offered to code up the meat of it if there was even the slightest interest), the best solution would be to either impose random hit points on everyone or impose maximum hit points on everyone. that way nobody's caught in the prisoner's dilemma AND we don't have to waste game time.

on the subject of NS4/5 as roleplay servers: making NS an exclusively RP enviroment is never going to happen, if it did, the devs would loose a huge chunk of their player base. what would be a good idea though is to provide two NS servers. One that is essentially what ns currently is(a meta gaming pvp server), and another that is RP enforced. just get a group of RP dedicated DMs to run the server, remove the ridiculous ubering artifacts, and design a set of rules specifically for that server. that way the devs dont loose any of the current player base, on the contrary, the new RP server would more likely than not draw new people into NS.
