there was a barb in ns3 that used terrifying rage to scare g1.......heh that was pretty funny :P

and last i heard dev crit is staying banned. guess ya gotta start that fighter over eh?

as for death magic, getting rid of it isn't so bad really.......either that or have it do double/triple svs (like weird)

I love how axons dc keeps going up. Axon is a good player and knows how to make a pvp mage. his dc was around 35 and he is perfectly killable.

Dev crit was removed becuase we cannot edit it to keep it in line

Everything about a mage we can edit and we will or have.

Death spells are rough but there is a simple counter. Potion of death ward or shadow shield.

Everything has a counter, you just have to find it, and know when to use it.

just took my lvl 24 test sorc into tc with dragon in toe, and was still cut down in just a few swings from a forest walker that got too close.

Doesnt matter if i had stoneskin when he did 40-50 point hits 2 handed.

This is not NS3, everyone needs to stop comparing the two. Leave your NS3 mentality in NS3. It's a whole new world out there.... with new beginnings...

I was going to say drop the DC on dev, but that anwered my suggestion.

I tried making potions and scrolls of death ward lastnight with my cleric and it was a no go... (I was using a lvl 7 cleric in the NC Cleric Training Center)

Also a potion of death ward or shadow shield saves you for only 1 round, then after it's dispelled you are SOoL. Or can they be dispelled?

I'll try making death ward pot's and scroll's again though.

If the players like you all left, we'd be just fine and have less lag.

I actually gave some of your arguments against caster's power thought and consideration, and then when you found out your own pet melee exploit was banned, you had a hissy fit. You lost all credibility in my, and probably many people's, opinion.

Dev crit can be kept in line by other ways. They did it in BoW by making an item that gives +5 fort saves, but -5 fort saves vs spells.
What is edited about a mages death spells? Oh right the animation...forgot that yea that really helps balance.
Potion of death ward or shadow shield wont do anything since it takes 1 mords, or heck even lesser dispel, and all of that is gone. "Fixing dispel" and making DC equal to character lvl would mean you cant even use spells such as horrid wilting, or even empowered FoD for damage, because everyone will use shadow shield.(unless breach is returned to how it was)
Apart from that it would only be abused by cleric/Ftr/Wm builds.
Your level 24 test sorc didnt have alot of AC from what I understand, the forest walkers could barely hit my bard and my bard has crap AC(only like 43)
Finally, I am not bitching, I am saying it is unbalanced and that this is what needs to be fixed, that is why Im testing beta after all right? Why it looks like Im bitching and complaining might be because the best reply I have gotten was Chimaira = *insert cry-baby image*.
That actually made me laugh, most of the other posts only amaze me at how desperately people try to defend their favorite uber caster class, or make it look like a caster couldnt possibly survive 1 round against a fighter without AT LEAST 40% immunity and 10/- resistance.

Um, Auto fail was removed from the spells. Can't do that to dev crit.

Ahem.. *taps the mic*

While i admit to not having played ANY PnP D&D games (its all been CRPG) whats been said in other threads about how mages are really the heavy weapons platforms of the classes is true. HOWEVER, unlike what ive heard about PnP, and my own experience playing single player CRPGs, mages were allot RARER then what we are seeing here. At least the high level ones who can finger of death, weird, wail ect you.

What people are trying to say here is that if you take away the fighters elite ability (dev crit) and let the mages have their one hit kill spells, that IS unbalanced, and you cant logicly say otherwise. You can start talking about saves and counter-potions all you like, but so far the "formula" ive experienced with saves still favors the mage's spell vs. the melee'ers saves. And ive used plenty of potions, only to have ALL the effects (ghostly visage, bless, barkskin ect) erased from a single PC or NPC action.

As a compromise, why not (if possible) let fighters have dev crit a limited # of users per day (1 to start with, and gain more uses/day as they level) that way, if the player plays SMART, he'll be on equal footing with the mages. (as dev crit has to beat the targets foritude save, and there are PLENTY of ways for a mage to boost his/her fort. Iron guts (lvl 1 or 2 spell i believe) gives what? a +4 to fort. saves? and there are feats to be chosen to bolster fort., like the rest of your saving areas. AND items to boost your con, which in turn helps fort. (i THINK. could be wrong on that one though)

So in summary, high level mages are going to be common, and unless you drasticly alter the way their spells are saved against, take away those insta-kill spells (which would generate even more howling then the dev crit i think lol) i really do believe that with in a cple months, NS4 will become a mage favored community, and all the other classes (except maybe cleric) will be hard pressed to get any sense of fair play out of it.
