NS4 Wikki abuse

The Items page on the wikki seems to have been spammed with some spamming links on it, I wasn't sure what to do about it I thought Ide post it here for someone who let who it may concern know about it.

This has been going on for...months. I'm surprised it took this long for someone to notice.

Yes, Fricebottle has been doing a stellar job of cleaning out the spam. Check the 'Recent Changes' page and you'll see it.
Before they were confining their spam to talk pages and odd inaccessible places, but now they seem to have zeroed in on some well travelled ones.

Wow... I just looked... what an annoyance. Thanks for keeping the Wiki clean of that garbage. You have been doing an outstanding job... I never even noticed that garbage until it was pointed out.

Is this the work of an individual or a bot? Because if it is a person I have some experiments I want to try with the offenders IP address.

Bots. At first I tried banning their IPs, but theres at least 3 individual Spam bots. The one you noticed is the most annoying, it posts a page worth of links on any page. Whether it be a Talk page, Article, or Category.

Then theres one that only spams the Talk Pages. This one is odd as it generates around 10 different generic messages that would make it seem human, but I noticed the pattern.

The most harmless one only adds in one word of gibberish, so when you see a word that makes no sense at the very top of a page, thats the one that did it.

No, no there isn't. Whoever created the Wiki that has access to the PHP disappeared, so I can't make it a requirement that people have to register to contribute.

What about transferring to wikipedia...and by doing that it will have the newer protections...not to mention free up potential bandwidth for DD. I know it is a big thing to try. I am seeing more and more wiki pages migrating to the new wikipedia standard.

Yeah, I've considered that. Although the idea of having to transfer all those articles over again looks quite time-consuming, I'd say it would probably save time in the long run considering how often I have to delete all the spam.
