Future events

First off let me say everyone did a great job yesterday and I will say very enjoyable to watch. That being said a couple things, I am hoping nobody joined in at the end just to get their prize, I rely on the honor system and it’s near impossible for me to tell. It seems everyone involved benefited, now that I look back the rewards were fairly excessive but, what can I say I let it go to long and very overtired combined with an overload of Nyquil (Midwest freezing weather) impaired my judgment on what was appropriate and made me ramble a little  . But what’s done is done I hope everyone had fun, which is all that really matters.

On to the current topic. In a perfect world I would win the lottery and have the time to run events for all the choices above but for here I am trying to see where the best place to focus on is. Any event for the specific levels would be designed to be difficult for a well rounded group. Aside from what the event would actually be this will give me a starting place. Also, since the AI can be somewhat predictable is it more fun to have events that create faction vs. faction set up, i.e. set an event that 2 or more factions aiming for different goals? Something like an escort mission 1 group has to see someone to safety while the other has to assassinate them. I don’t mind rewarding all who joined but the victor would get the “lions share”.

So help me find the sweet spot, I don’t mind things for the 35+ but I hate to focus every event for them since new arrivals wont have any characters that high. This doesnt mean every event will be for specific levels but its good to see which ones should get priority.

That's a tough choice because DM events are great for any level imo. However, due to the difficulty in acquiring high lvl items I like events that focus on the upper levels in the hopes that you can obtain some of those higher lvl items (esp. +4 books. I've been lucky enough to get one book in an event and one through lvling, I know some people who've been on this server longer than I and have never gotten one).

I was a bit caught between voting for heavy hitters and pvp and pvm. pvm seems to allow for less conflict among the players involved of course, but seems to be less challenging than pvp. The challenge of pvp lies in the unpredictable nature of people and trying to anticipate their moves, trying to find weaknesses, etc. etc. It makes for a lot more fun. Especially as one weakness one time may not be there next as your opponent will change what they do or the gear they use to cover that weakness. Overall pvp seems to be a lot more fun. I got so excited last night that even though I left early (if 1230 EST is early lol), I still wasn't able to settle down and get to sleep for another hour after I left lol.

*rubs head where wife hit him with pan this morning for climbin into bed so late*

All in all last night was a blast and I hope to see more events like that.

I voted for lvl 20 down, that way some of the newcomers have something that's more obtainable in the short-term to shoot for.

If events were only centered around the big kids, then new players may not be as inspired to stick around. I remember that feeling. I came here from a server where you could usually hit epic in one night and 40 in three. So imagine my dismay when I realized how long it would take me to get up to the point where I could go on a raid... :(

I think that a mix of PvM and PvP events would be fun. Cross-faction conflict that's not relic-based isn't something that we see that often, and often people aren't willing to go into a PvP fight at lower levels because their cheese won't kick in until they hit lvl 18. ;) These "protect vs. kill" missions would be great, IMO. Mix in some Ogre/Giant raids on Avendell from time to time and I think that you've got some real entertainment.

Also, getting a +2 INT book at level 35 would make me sad. :( Give them some time to make use of their (level apropriate) prizes.

I also voted for 20 or lower. Events just get crazy and scattered at very high levels. The events are much nicer to be involved with at low levels imo.

I voted higher, because it gives the lowbies something to look forward to when they get more "mature".

There is plenty of places to explore in Aetheria at lower levels, an event can often prove to be a bit confusing when new on the server.

DM's can always create simple events, by spawning monsters with higher CR to give a lowbie party a challenge, and really make a lowbie/noob happy and interested in continue play.

Please keep events at the 30+ levels which will make for more complex and interesting roleplaying.

EDIT: Even when a noob is in an event for the first time, laying dead and watching the action is interesting, and gives a noob something to aspire too when watching the lvl 35+ do their work. Besides, I'd be happy to raise those lowbies and give them another try.

Meh, keep it at a range. Personally I say Heavy Hitters, because the low levels are usually too busy leveling to care. Or the majority.

well also being lower level and hoping for a dm event to get the book you need seems silly at the same time.. why not just get the book with your higher level, then make a new toon with a plan to use the book to it's fullest possibility? (unless you're full-on RP'ing with no metagaming i guess)

Also, you could easily make events that require both high and low levels (like escort or defend the zone missions where high levels protect low levels - which could be pvp or pvm - pvm could be the dm teleports everyone into a plane and the high levels have to get the low levels out of the plane, or they have to visit and kill the boss of the plane with the low levels with them and keep them alive at the same time - or even have the low level land the killing blow on the boss to get the top prize?)

Another thing for DMS: when defining an event, please define all the rules, (maybe make a standard template?) like; is healing allowed? potions? scrolls? raising fallen? respawn on pvp death enforced? relogging different toons? level limits? anything goes? in faction vs faction can 4 factions band together against 1? e tc...

I picked high lvls since the way I design my builds they usually need to hit 37 or 40 or so before they're fully cheesed-out ;P

Yep me too. Once you get past the pile of bodies and the smell of charred flesh they are quite invigorating.

Chase comes up with some very creative events. I remember being in a low level party up on Giant Mtn in the caves when all of sudden the the giants started to fight back and set traps for us. It was so much fun to have to actually watch your step and plan out tactics. It also helped justify my rogue at the time. Her trap skills then became handy as I recovered them and we set our own ambushes.

regaurding the last comment, some people are just grateful for the events, and a + 2 book is an extra bonus, i htink some people shouldn't be ungrateful

Plain and simple:

--DM events show an active server with powers that care.

--Books as prizes (especially to vetran players) means more players online because; books = new toons to build!

--More toons online attracts more players,

--More players equals more people to kill...err... party with... well you know...
