the darkness gives a consealment bonus the spell invis purge removes any such consealment in the area this includes ghostly and etheiral vissage spells. i dont think darkness was supposed to be effected but it is. also if your invisible in darkness and that invisibilty is ended via spell or action you are fully visible despite the darkness still being active.

Pure Invis doesn't work vs. concealment (spell) though.

Happens with standard Darkness too. It's because 'hidden in darkness' and 'invisibility' are both tracked as invisibility effects.

well, there were times invis purge didnt work on my darkness tho. and I did nothing different, its like it does it at times.

Oh and I almost forgot, Mordes takes away darkness as well, so if this happens then it makes an ecl2 or 3 char a bit more usless cause mordes, invis purge and sometimes disspell does it. Is this really suppose to happen?

yes, dispels do work on racial darkness and yes it's supposed to be that way. It's handy stuff but it's not supposed to be *that* powerful.

what's REALLY hilarious is when you dispell someone with darkness and it strips their UV but not their darkness ;P. Pretty funny when someone thinks they'll jump you in a nexus with that only to be beaten down by their own self inflicted blindness!!11!!!1! (yes i've done that to people on more than one occasion with many roflols).

well gettin ultra disspelled makes sense, but gettin darkness doesnt. Just makes those sub races not worth lvling as much.

to my understanding that type of darkness is still magical? i think it makes sense that a magical ability can be dispelled by magical means like Mords. if it is supposed to be completely natural, then i think the only way to dispel it would be a Light spell. but honestly, i think you would be happier with someone wasting a lvl 9 spell to get rid of a free ability of yours than a cantrip :P

It's defeatable by the level 1-2 spell Ultravision, so i don't see it as a big issue that it can also be defeated by a level 9 spell.
Also its dispel DC is (supposed to be) based on your character level, so it's really not easy to get rid of - even a pure caster your level only has a 50% chance without abj focus.

I've very rarely had my darkness dispelled by a monster because the dispel ai is easily worked around, and it was never very effective in pvp anyway because any player can defeat it with the appropriate helm.

Speaking of Dispel & Ultravision against darkeness, how is it supposed to work?

With ultravision up, I go into the darkness, and still can't see. As a result, I can't target with a light spell or with a Dispel Magic.

If I'm outside the darkness, then I can't target the character with either spell. And, it doesn't seem to let me target the area. The tiems it does, the spell goes off but nothing happens (by that I mean no DC checks are displayed in my log).

Any hints?

Thanks!

if your toon is aasimar you will never be able to see in the darkness. your best bet in that instance is to cast the dispell as close to the edge of the darkness as you can. or not use aasimar race tho the negating effect of aasimar light should negate the penaltys of the darkness IMO.
