New Server Format

Post by Ebenezer Grymm »

Heres a suggestion to make Aetheria more specifically tailored to each players taste, and make policing a LOT easier for DM's.

Take NS4 Prime and re-dub it NS4 Hardcore or NS4 Extreme.

Take NS4 Lite and re-dub it Reflections. Or whatever, you know what I'm getting at.

NS4 Hardcore is a no rules on pvp free for all for all the kill happy people. Everything stays as is minus pvp restrictions like numbers of kills on a player in a certain amt. of time and all that mess. Avendell and FD remain no pvp or relics (of course as always no relics in planes either).

NS4 Lite is restricted PvP, they just disable pvp in all areas except maybe faction cities so people can't just be in your town killing your guards and stuff. And disable the relic system so everyone levels equally. This way if you really want to duel someone, you have to go to their town or a town, which means it would be consentual, and it's still possible.

This fixes a TON of stuff. No more people whining to DM's cause they got pk'd here or there or how many times and where, whatever.

Reflections population is already people who consistently in their own words say "We are here cause we don't like the drama and constant pking on Prime." And the people who play on Prime and don't like the drama and pking have a server to go to with like-minded people who love the server but hate pvp. And with PvP only in faction cities, it leaves a lot of room for people to roleplay, too.

This gives everyone what they want and a place to get it, and the DM's would never hear a complaint that wasn't tech related (ie "I can't login" or "the relic is stuck" etc.)

And I mention the DM part specifically cause we all know there is a severe lack of DM's around lately. Deneir and Erevan are great, but all the old timers hardly even make cameos anymore, and it would lighten the load on those that are still active.

Anyways, discuss.
This will not be over quickly.

You will not enjoy this.

HaHahahahahahahaha!!!!! You underestimate peoples' affinity to whine.

But anyways, this was discussed a while back and decided against because of its poor results in NS3.

If there is anyone on this server who doesn't underestimate peoples ability to whine right now, you're talking to him.

I'm not sure how it was implemented on NS3 and I'm certainly not familiar with the in's and out's of the player base there, but it seems a pretty solid idea to me with our current player base pretty much split that way as it is between Prime and Reflections, and would probably increase both servers population a bit.

People on Prime who want less pvp and more rp or just less drama can stay with the server they love, just be on Reflections like many are already.

People who've left Prime for reasons they felt restricting or simply got tired of the whining will be able to come back to the server they love and battle it out without ramifications or having to think "OK, I dislike this person and he dislikes me, and I killed him at 2:39, it's 5:58 now, only 2 hours and 41 minutes of them talking crap before I can waste them again."

I think this weeks Relic Event has shown that new forms of competition can bring a whole new breath of excitement and freshness to the server for players old and new. And so would my suggestion here.

because ppl on reflections would cry because they couldn't kill someone and ppl on the ns4 hardcore server would cry because they got killed.

the formula doesn't work out as well as you would think. Reflections came about because of Prime being full all the time...which it will do soon as schools and such will start letting out.

ns4 used to be full on pvp hardcore rules kill anywhere, anytime, anyhow, trust me i did ;), but for the sake of the server it has developed slowly into a better and more appealing place to be.

Funny ... one day im saying he reminds me of him .... the Next he is Suggesting my ideas from a co9uple o months ago.

This wouldnt work cause there would be alot of old players to come back. I dont think u understand the ramifications of a no rule server with Willow and DD1 combo, the okies making u GET BENT. Not to mention countless others.

i think it would ultimatly push people away from the server. I thought it wold be a cool idea but u will have more people not wanting to be hard core rather than want too.

That pretty much sounds to me like it would achieve the desired effect, but I'll bow to the greater knowledge of Mask in this case if it's been tried before.

With all the balancing done and being done by Zing and Binky (lol Binky)etc. and all the new players around, I think those old players would be coming back to some very different competition.

I wanna kill me an okie. Or invite them into M.D.

Okies working for you...I'd like to see that.

As for the server separation...lets see...You want a server that's more hardcore, where PvP is more widely accepted, and a server where most people just go to have fun and avoid the drama...

What a wild, new and zany concept.
Lets call the one, harder server "Prime" and the more mellow, easy-going server "Reflection"...oh, wait a sec...

not that its been tried, its how the server started.....

back in the good ole days you could flesh to stone someone so they had to respawn....bannable now because its harrasment

back in the good ole days you could no save bigby hand an okie and let NS gaurds kill him.....bannable now

back in the good ole days you could get 10 ppl in a spawn point and kill an individual 50 times and completely delvl him.....bannable now

back in the good ole days you could pk the same player as many times as you felt you needed to no matter how or why...we have limits now so that mean ppl don't harrass noobs

back in the good ole days you could do almost anything you wanted to as long as you didn't exploit the server for personal gain.....

i'm glad those days are gone because as fun as it was for a while, it got really bad really fast. just be happy we have sense enough to have strict guidlines that still allow you to be who you are ;)

Reflections easy going? Dang I been away too long, guess I'll have to dust off the killer and go carry out Aurils's will, "Red is dead".

But to have a server without any rules at all is a waste of server space and dev's hard work. Very few like hard core kill or be killed 24/7, you've not seen whinners or complainers in full action until you unleash a handfull of "Okie" style players upon the server. Personally I liked the Okie's, killing one was like killing a boss and you never knew where you would find one. But then I am a Brat by nature.

Basically you have 3 types of players;

Killers - Those that live to kill and kill to live

Adventurers - Seek adventure and a challenge, don't run from a battle and take each loss as a lesson to help strengthen thier build. But not likely to initiate a PvP battle without a clear cut reasoning.

Others - Loot and friends are all they are after, adventure is only an annoyance between them and more loot. Being PK'd is an insult and a waste of thier time. Will run from a battle of PvP if possible or will die quickly, learn nothing and follow up with posts or whines to the nearest DM.

All 3 types are present on both servers, as the power changes between factions or guilds so will the whines. Right now MD is in the hot seat, before them there were slaves, KST and Okies just to mention a few. It all passes through the mod like Chinese food. Once MD has had thier fill a new power will emerge and take over.

Reflections was made to be just that, a Reflection of Prime. Changing that very fundamental that is even stated in the name would be arbitrary.

well basically ive never tried reflections - all my stuff has always just been on prime, i mostly solo anyway and the recent descriptions of it sound like i would really like it - im seriously contemplating deleting my entire collection of prime toons and heading over.

LOL Okies were nothing but a good hunt. They were very good at hiding though, I will give them that. Many a time I lost one in the chase. The Slaves were the only guild I would give a wide berth. Those guys ran in packs and showed no mercy. Every time I ran into a group of them I knew it was all over.
