That is not true, mantle, globes etc will work to avoid silence, SR spell will work to avoid silence ... so basically any caster class can defend against Silence it really is not that hard.

That is the part I have always seen as bugged though, sometimes it does not let you take your will save to negate.

Those aren't immunities. Globe of Invulnerability and Infernal Vigor Item are examples of immunity... which work sometimes, and not other times.[/quote]

Just to be clear since silence has not been changed at all according to Metis does that then mean the 100% immunity to sonic damage and bard song/curse song works as described.

Like I said earlier if you have Spell Resistance it flickers on off wildly so if you can cast on yerself and have no SR it works fine but otherwise the dependablity of it to protect yourself from sonic and song is extremely low.

Weird, what happens when my Drow Priestess casts the spell is this: It sometimes silences her too, especially when moving around. But it will still be effective against others.
So it only flickers for her...

I've also noticed something wierd with the Silence spell. When casting it on my full-blood human bard, the spell will flicker on and off when moving around, but will stop flickering when stationary or in combat.

then there's the occasional perma-silence bug. sometimes if you enter a silenced area your toon is invisibly silenced until next rest, even if you move out of the silence area or the spell otherwise wears off.

Yeah Silence is a [censored] of a spell, I don't really see a use to it into high epic levels anyway, most things can make the low will save, and if they can't they are generally not a caster class anyway.

It works, especially on planar areas and against casters... Tho, it has it's drawbacks.

it's HORRIBLY buggy... I was going to build a silent-cleric but before I did, I did some extensive testing, and it seems to be mostly useless -- not party friendly, the silence effect stays with you even once you have left the AoE/circle and you can't cast again until you fully rest, and all the other things that were mentioned.

Not sure if it's even worth modifying somehow, perhaps it could become a 1-shot bard/curse song removal spell (WITH a save of some sort) cast similar to gust of wind - ie: it could be cast on any target (hostile, friendly) under the influence of a bard or curse song, stripping the songs effects.

well i've seen it used to very good effect, i cant say that its useless. the effect is meant to travel with you. you can definitely build a couple of character concepts around silence. it's not party friendly but it's an extremely powerful effect, for sure it will have drawbacks. the only real bugs with it are the perma silence and sr flip flop.

My observations are:
I've used it without SR and it stops the flickering when cast on myself but still doesnt stop a curse song but very effective against Arcane casters. (
I havent noticed the inabililty to cast after duration has ended.
It flickers when moving (same as drow/tiefling darkness) - could be speed vs. lag?
Definitely counters sonic dmg.

The only real nerf i'd like to see is remove the SR save and let it negate curse/bard song and possibly reduce the duration as to not make it to powerful and possilby make it non-scrollable (current scrollable version lasts a very short duration as is)
