Silence nerfed?
Silence nerfed?
I'm having issues with the Silence spell.
Under spell listing its says if cast on ally no SR or save is required but this is not the case. It doesnt trigger a save but my SR keeps flickering it on and off Making it pretty useless . Has it been nerfed to act such or has this issues not been discussed. I've found ways to get around it but as such as it is has pretty much made the Silent spell feat downgraded to totally useless from pretty much useless.
I've noticed that many of the radius spell effects are pretty buggy here. IE Circle of Protection, Invisibility sphere . Both of which are in the junk pile. But Silence still works great offensively if you dont zone, it be nice if the defensive qualities of it too could be resolved aswell.

Silence works like so...
If you cast it on yourself, you will not be able to cast, cause only targets that are "Unwilling" will be able to resist it.
So cast on yourself = no SR check = no spells from you to be able to cast.
Cast it on an object/person other then yourself you can Resist it, so can the person you cast it on.
That is how it works.

I've found silence to be pretty buggy too... Ghostly Visage sometimes blocks it, sometimes not. I think this is Bioware's handywork. Other spells and abilities have this same problem... although I'm not sure if its Silence or something else.

My SR is turning it off and on every round or so. Thats the issue.

When it says there is no save required when cast on an ally, it means that there is no save required for the aura to be placed.
Last I checked Silence was an aura that you cast on a person. Everything within a radius around that person then must make a save (and possibly/probably SR) or be silenced. I think the effect lasts a round and you must make a check every round or something similar.
If you try to cast the aura on an enemy they can make a save to prevent the aura from being set. If you cast on an ally, they are assumed to be willing and the aura is set without a save. All checks to actually suffer the effects of the aura must still be made.

Alright guys dont go off topic.
What I'm saying is Silence when cast on yourself should NOT have to make you have an SR check every round and IT DOES make you take a check every rd sometimes every sec.It flickers on and off like a stobe light at a gabber party.
There's no confusion on how the spell should work. Alls I'm saying it does not function the way its supposed to when cast on self or ally. And I was hoping a could get a DM or DEV to answer but alas..............

I'm pretty sure the fact that its useful at all is due to a bug... a level 2 spell that silences with no save... pretty uber.
I guess don't use SR is the only thing I can think of... unless you're ECL 3.... like I said the spell is just plain bugged... even immunity to it doesn't always work either.
