Allied Faction Jobs

Post by Raikov »

I very much like the job system (and eagerly await the jobs for SL! :)), but I can't help but feel there's a substantial limitation on them. This limitation has to do with the allied faction. I'll use the Circle as our example:

When one does the Circle jobs, they become very well acquainted with Melencia Forest and the surrounding area. But if a forest dweller were to head north to Northern Coalition territory, there is a feeling of detachment. One can't really get a feel for the allied faction as none of the NPC's will interact with the Circle player. It's an odd feeling, similar to being an outcast.

What I propose is a faction job that is only available to a member of the allied faction. A Circle player could head to Beryn and have a chat with a Marshall, who would send them on their way to combat some nameless evil that threatens Daeron. Conversely, an NC player would probably be conscripted by a Forest Walker to help with an infestation of Bugbears that are massing to the South of Melencia.

It seems to me that this system of jobs for the allied faction (even if it is just a single quest) would be beneficial as it would foster a need for players to visit their allied faction for a legitimate purpose (as opposed to snatching a relic), strengthening the sense of community between allies, making Aetheria seem that much more real.

I like this idea. :D
Maybe make it less of a "job" in the sense of the other jobs, but just a "quest" for xp or gold.

Allied faction jobs are a good idea, yet I think things are too far along to make the changes needed to get allied jobs, maybe in NS5? The first job available is within the home faction. Upon completing the first job a second job becomes available in the allied faction, sort of an exchange program to strengthen relations. Factions without allies (like LA) would have two jobs of it's own. A character could only do two jobs total.

right... so everyone NOT in LA will have a total of +4 to their stats due to picking the stat bonus jobs.... LA would have to have new jobs to balance that out.

as for ns5... i'd like to see a max of 3 factions, basically could be 'good' 'evil' and 'neutral'... the 2 faction system of WoW seems to work quite well, but everything in WoW is stripped down and stoopified, nwn is more complex, so throw in 1 more. Also if the land divisions could be created with the idea of balance, then things like relic raiding and land-capturing would be more fair.

Not to be argumentative but I really like the variety we get here I think 3 factions would be disappointing, NS4 I don't see it as supposed to be balanced(Well faction wise, by all means I enjoy how classes and spells are being made more fair), some factions have an advantage some do not. Just remember Relics are not the main focus of NS and if by adding relics will make all the faction the same, or even cut them down to 3, I really don't see them worth it.

Well, i'm also thinking about other NWN modules like Dor Maeglin where the predominant alignment effects all NPCs (ie: merchants)... when you login it says the balance of the world is neutral, good or evil.

And also, I'm not talking about merging factions into just 3, but actually keeping all the factions separate as they are now, but have them included in one of 3 overall 'pools', perhaps even ADD 2 more (ie: another GOOD one and the Neverwinter9 class) to round it out so it's 3 groups of 3 factions.

We should continue this in the right forum probably, I wonder if NS5 will allow 2 PRC's since you can make toons with 3 PRCs in nwn2, perhaps 2 PRCs only if 1 of them is your faction prc... (but then we'll have the bard+RDD+PM problem).

All in all I prefer NWN1 over NWN2 except the landscapes and tilesests in nwn2 are a LOT more interesting at a base level, but the Ns4 dev's have made the base tileset of nwn1 look amazing in a lot of places, and you can get alternate tileset skins to give things a nicer look on your end (as I have).
