When people take the game too serious

Post by uFiS »

Some months ago, a friend (real life friend) and I started playing NWN again and eventually ended on Neversummer.
Then Reflections came and I moved over and after some convincing (to let go of all his toons on NS4 server) he joined me there. We attempted to get a AO *spit* :p guild going. Failing that I spent a brief time in Neversummer City, but eventually overcame that problem to settle in Garagoth.
My friend however stayed on in NSCity due to the constant relic bonus provided by the Bretheren.

Due to this (and him spending ALOT more time on the game) his toons soon outgrew mine.

Eventually I got a decent toon together and went on to retrieve my relic.

But for all my effort I'd only be rewarded with him (and superior toons) taking it back. So I took their relic, and kept it with me just to deny LA the relic bonus.

This apparently was so wrong in his eyes that a 15 year friendship has now come to an end.

It is a sad day indeed that (dare I say) an addiction to the game and the relic bonus has caused this.

But life goes on. And so does the game (although any toon of mine logging on will automatically result in him loggin a ~lvl40 toon and hunting me down)

See you in game.
Never fear moving forward slowly, fear only standing still.

I have to say that if that is what caused the breakdown of a friendship then there was never any friendship there to begin with. Friends, at least in my eyes, are definitely worth more than a game and in most cases worth more than a relationship with a significant other. An old timer told me a long time a go that women come and go but friends are there to the end(substitute games for women in this instance). Way too much emphasis has been placed on the relics in my opinion. It has been stated before by management that the relics are not the game but a BONUS to the game. Frosting does not a cake make. Be thankful Neversummer is a great mod to play on and have a relic bonus to boot. Just think of all of those servers out there that cant hold a candle to what is here, now imagine them all with relic bonuses...ummm, they would still suck. So...play the game. swipe the relic, kill the players but for hells bells just have some damn fun. With that said I am gonna log on and kill some lowbies, HEHEHE.

Yeah if the game was really about the relics then what on earth would I be doing playing it? I'm CLAD we never have a relic or have a prayer of getting one.

On the other hand it is rude to do such things as wandering into avendell to prevent yourself from being killed while you have a relic. RP out the game here people what is it that avendell wants to do? They want to remain neutral and bringing a captured relic to the city and seeking sanctuary there shouldn't be tolerated by the avendell watch its just that they're NPC's and dont notice these sort of things probably because it would be near impossible to script them to do that.
If it's 'Reflections' couldn't we actually be the Southern Coalition?

You lack of faith is stunning, brother. We have our god back, it is only a matter of time.

.....You did, however, just throw a fantastic idea out there for the server that would add more RP and challenge to the relic game. Avendell wants to remain neutral; in fact they rely on it to keep trade alive. The Watch should become hostile to anyone carrying a relic through Avendell. I am pretty n00b when it comes to scripting, but I don't think it would be as hard to script as you think. There is a value that flips their hostility to a player, why not have that turned on when you have a relic, and then off when you put it in the cradle?

I'm sure none of the uber-raiders on either server would have that hard a time with it, right? I mean, Avendell is a crutch in the relic game as it is...

As far as the friendship goes, uFis, my apologies. Some people shouldn't play this game, but I think the dev's are having trouble getting a warning label from the Surgeon General about it. I would agree with Lorkar1 on this, though...a real friend wouldn't behave like that. :(

Blystos Re, its more complicated than you think. Avendell is a no attack zone, period. Nothing there is kill-able. Not the guards, not the players, and not even the animals laying around. If an Avendell guard went hostile, what would be the point? Its not like they'd be damaging each other. The only way for that to happen is to disable whats keeping Avendell in order. Without it, Avendell would become a virtual kill-zone.

My point is that with Avendell hostile to the relic runner, they can't rest.
While they may not be in any immediate danger, that makes it a little less attractive of a place to park when raiding. Sorry if I didn't make that clear in my last post, I guess I thought it was pretty obvious.

And when you say it's a "no-attack-zone-period"...I've had them go hostile after an event (due to, I think, Leona's guards using the same faction as the Watch), so they can attack you...I guess I'm confused?
:?

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!

I am sorry to hear this event occured. I wish you new friends and a Happy New year.

*It's exceptionaly sad because LA is the faction that started the Hold onto the Relic tactic in the first place*

Very sad and ironic. Be of good cheer and play on!
