I'm making a pure cleric, would be nice to have one single bonus once I hit level 40. Would be nice. Like, a TRUE cleric item. Not a cheesed cleric, but one who is utterly loyal to their god.

i think some of the pure classes will be better off than the cheese classes by the time they all get in. of course thats just my opinion and does not reflect the opinion of any moderately intelligent person.

Heh, not saying theres no benefit in going pure. I mean, buffs are harder to strip and more epic feats. Just would be nice to get a little trinket or something for going pure 40 levels of cleric.

every class will have stepped lvls that increase powers and abilities just as fighters have now. it all depends on what works best and what we get going.

Will this "bonus" be retroactive?

Say I have a 19th lvl mage (wizard or sorceror). If I level up to 20th/30th/40th before the pure class bonuses are added in, will I be missing out?

Or will I log in with my 40th lvl mage one day and presto, have new abilities?

Thanks.

When you lock a character into being a pure character, old bonuses are applyed. You just have to chat with chuck.

I almost hate to ask... but with NS5 in development, is work continuing to be done on the pure class bonuses?

Thanks

Considering what has happened with mages so far I wouldn't suggest sitting around and waiting for mages to get pure class bonuses anytime soon. And, even when (if) the mages finally get their bonuses after every other class has gotten it's bonus, I doubt it will be anything comparable to what the other classes got.

I hope I'm wrong.

pure wiz suggestion

Post by disastro »

not sure if this has been suggested already, but some ideas for a pure wizard could be taken from the "archmage" prestige class out of the d&d 3.5 dungeon master's guide. stuff like :

-all spells are party friendly (hmm perhaps pure time stop is party friendly, nonpure are caster only?) this would emulate the spell shape high arcana
-spells do half "magic" damage or other infrequently resisted type. (emulates energy substitution feat)
-level / 10 added to effective caster level for damage dice, durations, etc. (emulates the +caster level arcana).

Mages shouldn't be required to be pure class to get certain basic increases to their power in epic levels.

+1 Spell DC / 2 Epic Caster Levels
Doubling of DMG caps on spells for epic levels with a +1d / epic caster level damage increase.
Fireball for example, @lvl21 does 11d6 with +1d/epic caster level up to level 30 for 20d6.
Horrid Wilting would get +1d / epic caster level for a max of 40d8 @ 40

Magic Missle is the perfect example so far. Normally does 5d4+5, but does 10d4+10 now. Only thing that should change is the dmg should be moved to epic levels.
lvl 20 = 5d4+5
lvl 21 = 6d4+6
lvl 23 = 7d4+7
lvl 25 = 8d4+8
lvl 27 = 9d4+9
lvl 29 = 10d4+10

..
dude that would result in dc 60+ death spells.. with a little sacrifice that could go to 70+. even twinked sorc/pallys would run into problems with that.

gotta tread lightly with wizards, a small buff for the pure classed can go a long way (and this is to make up for the huge power you get from multiclassing into just about any other class). if you're already multiclassed you've got a lot going for you already.

Why do you post when you have no clue what your are posting about?

Current max DC is 48

Base - 10
Spell Level - 9 max
Spell Focus - 6 max
Casting Ability - 23 max
Total DC - 48

Proposed +1/2epic caster levels = 58DC absolute max

That's a wizard with GreatINT10 and Epic Focus
That leaves only 2 spare feats in epic levels to do whatever with.

That's a build with maxed out INT.
That's a build that used a INT4 book, how often do those drop?
That's a build that just used 13 feats to get what it got.

A nearly lvl 40 build with THAT much dedication deserves a DC58 spell once a round. It deserves more.

Grab a brain buddy.

If people want to continue not building well rounded builds, they deserve to be smashed for their imbalances.

You can easily obtain >60 fort vs death spell with a crap build and only a small effort using the right gear and NO paladin/blackguard/CoT levels.
Since the server has fail save on 1 disabled, that means you are immune.
This means that some of the best most powerful spells for 2 classes are rendered absolutely useless. How fair is that?

Just because you have no clue what you are doing and have a crap build, doesn't mean you spout off trying to get others nerfed that are already nerfed.

you contradict yourself jester. if +60 saves are easy to get and make +20 save DCs usless because everyone is "immune" anyway, why did you suggest it? your second post says your first is a useless idea.

I dont recall asking for anything to be nerfed, where did you read that?

Lastly, I have yet to call anyone names or bring anything to the table other than plain old discussion. How about the same in return?
