My (incomplete) NS4 Map

Post by JoeFaust »

Hey Everyone,

I was going to finish this NS4 map, but then I received my "Welcome to the World of Warcraft Beta Test" email, so I'm going to be away from NS4 for a little while :)

Couple things:

1) ***SPOILER ALERT*** There are many interesting places shown on this map, so if you like exploring on your own, I'd suggest avoiding looking at it.

2) This map isn't a simple image. It's a zMapper database. In order to view this map, you'll need zMapper. Grab it here:

http://www.zuggsoft.com/zmapper/zmapperinfo.htm

You can download it for free and use it for 30 days.

Download my map database here:

http://www.joefaust.com/nwn/ns4map.zip

If anyone wants to finish this map and send it to me, I'll be happy to host it.

And now here's a little taste of what you can look forward to:

Enjoy!

Nice work, I was trying to get to Falme the other day, using the brown NS map, cause I haven't been there yet, but never made it... I gonna make it there now!

Hmmm. Okay, I keep getting lost in Avendell... but I didn't know if it would be 'okay' to make maps.

I have Campaign Cartographer Pro, while I'm not very good with it, I could work on some maps to.

Screen dumps, import them as bmps, trace over them, and post to my web site.

'just go southeast' to get to a particular building, took me 20 minutes of real time searching.

Stuff I've already done for my PnP campaign, check the website in my profile link.

Just reiterating that if anyone wants to finish this map, I'll happily host it on my server. (server = linux box on a cable modem)

One thing that would be particularly cool would be to take screenshots of the in-game minimap, and import those images into zMapper. You can easily resize the room squares and apply an image to it.

I've got the map covered. Good start, Joe!

Only the Dev's could make a map like that, can only get those cam angles in the toolset. Would be cool, but I don't think they want it to be publicly mapped like that. A player could do it with high resolution screenshots of the map window, but it would be very basic. Although I suppose a player could also use the camera hack, but I don't know how much it frees the camera, I've never used it. (I try not to use any sorts of add-ons that weren't made by the game designer, such programs are usually not very well programed and have bugs or cause other computer problems) Although if I play here long enough I'm sure I won't need a map, like in NS3, could draw a map of that world off the top of my head }: )

Drawing maps isn't hard.

Its getting the info to draw the maps that can be a problem.

The software I use is based on a CAD program. I, and many others, use it to draw campaign worlds, cities, Inns, towns, dungeons, temples, houses, etc.

The only problem I see is being accurate and drawings that duplicate the same building roofs, doorways, etc. present in NS.

Do a screen dump, convert to bmp, insert the bmp in campaign cartographer, draw the details, delete the bm p from the drawing. Export as both a map file and a png file. Put it up on a web site.

edit: I'm not very good at making maps, but here is the page where I put links to the adventures I created for my PnP campaign.
http://crestar.drivein-jim.net/adventures.html

Other users of cc2pro do much better than I do. It just takes awhile to learn the program.

The Camerahak by Brandon W (or whoever) was THE [censored]!
It would let you set the fog distance to anything you wanted, it would let you zoom out farther than the current zoom, and it was possible to totally customize each setting for the different camera modes.
It's a damned shame that bioware made him stop, but he embarassed them so what do ya expect?
Bioware has been so retarded with having so many restrictions on how far you can go with stuff in the engine. Mod makers shouldn't have to hak file to remove these limits to get what they want.
