Advice for epic wizard (or sorc)?
personally I find the level 2 and 6 lists the git for sorcs. True Sight and IGMS are musts (as See Invis is a precious l2 spell), then you have to choose between the second best bigby, mass haste, flesh to stone and tensers.
L9 isn't bad, but i find it more of a challenge than Jester. The problem is whether to take Wail. It's not very useful against most mobs and PCs later on, but it's one of the two spells that have any hope of hitting an SD.

Off topic- does the new implosion still exclude saving throw bonus from spellcraft? (it was the only one that did and was the only useful death spell for that reason)
On topic question- Is the hellball being changed/has it been changed to different element types or was that just gonna be a change for the monsters?
I thought I read somewhere that some of the damage would be divine/positive energy/magical or something- which would make it a much more useful spell to take for an epic caster

you don't need different spells, hell or even a party to level a mage to 40.
its esy and requires nothing other than time since the grinding is rediculess.
1-18..... anywhere.
18-32..... Icegiants
32-40...... Zons and plane of earth.
u have to be necro/cong focused and I've come to find asimar is best and to go sorc.
DK can smash through zons fully focused with a couple of bigsbies.
ac on the solar is amazing and as a sorc the necro focusing isn't a waste since u can switch out wails and in ice giants mummy is better for tanking while u wail.
like I said before .... real easy to do but it does require dedication. and if you really want to u can even throw in 5 pali for ungodly saves.
pm me for more details.

If the original poster is still looking for suggestions:
I would stay away from the sorcerer class. I have a 32nd lvl sorcerer, and while my DC for most spells is reasonable, the lack of known spells is a nightmare.
The sorcerer class gets a whopping 3 (three) known spells for lvls 6th - 9th. Sure, they get a base of 6 spells / day while a wizard only gets 4. But a wizard gets to learn all of the spells in the game from scrolls.
I wish I had done more research before devoting 32 levels. Oh well. Been a fun ride so far. Might as well start up that wizard tonight

sorcerers way over power wizz.
as a sorc lets see hmm I'm going to be in fd for the next 10 levels I should grab wail.
now that I'm level 30+ wail doesn't do anything for me o.O SO LET ME SWITCH TO bigsbies since that is the I win button for pvm.....
there are lots of ways to play....
just need to learn a few

i'm a wiz in FD, so i mem wails, then i'm 30+ and wail doesn't work any more so i *sit down and rest* and replace them all with bigbys.
now which one of those is easier?
back to what someone else said, IMO the value of a sorc's extra spells per day is quite overblown. At level 35ish a specialised wiz will have 8 l9 spells per day as opposed to a sorc's 9. oh noez!
the real tradeoff IMHO is that a sorc gets 25% of the spellbook and gets spontaneous casting, while a specialised wiz gets 80% of the spellbook and 4 bonus feats but has to prep spells in advance.
