I'm trying to get my wife to play and I would like ideas for a character that would be fairly easy to play and wouldn't die so much. She has never played D&D or any online rpg games.
Thanks

I always recommend a cleric or 16/4 cleric/fighter to start. they get heavy armour so you don't have to worry about low ac early on. you'll be welcome in parties for the group buffs and ability to raise, and even without any special feats you and your summon can solo pretty well in a pinch.
they're a bit more effort than a purely fighter type because of the spellcasting, but it's not too much.
if you want *really* simple then go pure monk. starting AC isn't great, but you're fast so after a while you can usually get out of anything you get yourself into, and most of the special abilities of the class are passive. you also get disc without multiclassing for it.

Fighter/Bard
Barbarian/Bard
Are a couple well balanced multiclasses, especially the barb/bard since both classes put out the same skill points/level. Just be sure to take heavy armor feat early on for the barb one, unless you going dex build.
Could take it a step further and join AO, make a barb/bard/rdd, do something like 8barb/8bard/4rdd in first 20. Good AB progression, excellent Saves progression. If you keep the CHA to a minimum at creation and only worry about using bard song, it's a very easy to play build.
