Frequent lag spikes and player crashes

Both NS4 and Reflection have been getting frequent, bad lag spikes that are usually followed by a few players crashing minutes later. It started after the new planes were added

I don't think anyone on Reflection is on the new planes, though.

last nite a group of hns/brethren were in the new planes on ns4-prime and it was holding up fairly well....i know there was another large AO party out there as well....so who knows i guess more info will come in time..

there was a party in positive and a party in HoD at the same time...each party was about 6 members and heavy into casting and buffs. lag was doing just fine.

this was happening sporadically last night. one of my party members was getting lag spikes while me and the other member were not. then it happened to me a few times. sometimes you lag spike and come back after a minute, other times you lag spike and it looks like the server crashed. a few times i got 10 second lags and then it came back.

it doesnt seem to happen to everyone at once, but when it does happen to certain folks it happens to all of them at once (i.e. some people dodge the lag bullet and see nothing, but those who get hit all get hit at the same time and they either all come back or they all lagspike out.)

I was having the same problem with lag spikes. Sometimes it would seem like I would freez up then everything would play catch up real quick, or I would experience a bit of lag time and then get disconnected.

Is this only on the Reflections server or on the Prime one as well?

I have experienced this only on Reflections, but I cannot speak for the others.

It may just be Reflection:

On Reflection I have experienced lag spikes where I cannot see any of my inventory, but I can see my character sheet and I can move around. I usually crash a few minutes later but not always.

On NS4 I have not had the same experience, though other players say they have had something similar.

There are some odd crashes on the original server as well. But it seems that they are mostly due to shifter deads.

iit seemed to have eased up a bit last night on reflections....but that was when the player count decreased too

Once we are connected to the server, does any data pass through Gamespy's servers, or does it become a direct connection?

If it doesn't change to a direct connection then Gamespy may be having problems?

fyi i was getting identical lag symptoms when my home pc was experiencing packet loss ($@#$! wireless connection). lag spikes, catchup, etc. when i resolved the packet loss issues these problems went away.

it would also explain why some people get lag spikes and others don't at the same time... it depends on who's packet is getting dropped.

Had an unusual occurence, not sure if this is related to this problem.
I used a stat tome on a char on reflection. Was in the Avendell Inn. Went thru the usual cut scene and was ported out. When char came back it appeared char was in Avendell proper and on prime server. I have a char with same name on both servers. I had be relogged to prime instead of reflection. I logged out of prime and went to reflection. Ability change did take place and char was as it should be. I was connecting thru gamespy, not direct.

Similar problem--connected via Gamespy.

Created a new character on Reflection, went through subrace selection. The relog got me to NS4 Prime, where I of course got an invalid character error and was booted back to the char selection screen.
