nwn2 and ns5
yeah I was wondering if there are plans of immiadiatly releasing ns5 when nwn 2 comes out.
I curently have 3 coppies on hold and would like to know if there is going to be ns5 so I know weather I want to drop 150 on these games or not.
if not then I would be getting one copy for me to play with untill ns5 is released.
thanks

Seriously. No.
For one the PW capabalities of NWN2 are very limited and different from NWN1. We can only do about 1/4 of the areas due to ram requirements and file sizes, but we get a world map to work with so we dont have to do lots of filler areas.
You will have to download a huge file everytime we make a change to the mod. 50-150 megs dependign on the size of our mod. This will limit new players alot.
The multiplayer has not been tested with more then 6 people so far so no clue how many it will hold yet.

We will try . We have alot of work done on the design scheme and the backstory etc, as well as alot of stuff laid out and close to ready to start on, but we have not done any mod work yet except playing with the toolset and learning it.
When nwn2 comes out we will put up a test world and add to it to see what nwn2 can do, but the real NS5 will be underwraps for a while. We will do a beta again, but not the extended beta like ns4. Once we go live with the first stage we will do other stages in sections and beta those as well.
Think of it as expansion packs almost. NS5 opens. then the add on, then another, then another etc.
Hope that helps.

Just curious, as for the general population of NS, are ya'll to be deserting NS when NWN2 comes out? Or will a lack of solid PW capabilities in NWN2 keep you with the original?
But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer
Since NWN2 will require a sizeable download to play, I think adding a .hak pak to NS4 to implement D&D 3.5 and other desired functionality (NOT tilesets) might be worth considering as an alternative. I played on a server prior to this one that had implemented many of the 3.5 rules, so my Bard had spells like Heroism and Greater Heroism. It was alot of fun. Unfortunately, the server closed down out of fear of lawsuits from the Tolkien estates (it was LoTR-based).
Better "special effects" don't, imho, necessarily make for a better playing experience (I mean, I still love Quake 2). Developers on other server boards are almost disparing of being able to create a viable MPORPG with NWN2 because of the need to constantly download huge files in order to play initially and every time the mods changes thereafter.

And the fact that not everybody can afford to buy a new pc to run these newer gen game, nwn2 included.
Looking at its specs, i barely make it for reccomended (mostly. my vid card is 1 lvl below reccomended). Ive had the luxury to be able to afford to upgrade my pc every 3 years or so, allot of our members prob cant do that. So i doubt DD will want to switch over, at least for teh very forseeable time being, to a new game that at least 1/2 of the community cant run well, if at all right now

I have no intentions of switching to NS5 and NWN2 at this time, whatsoever.

So I have a copy, and have installed it on a system that meets the recommended specs (barely) and this is what I'm seeing....
with every option turned down all the way, the game looks pretty crappy, and plays like NS4 when there were 46 players logged in and the server had been in need of a reset for at least an hour...
folks, imho, if you didn't buy a new machine in the last few months (mine is a custom build not quite a year old) I suggest that you not buy a copy.
the graphics coding appears to be very very clunky for it's quality, considering that my main box can and does run a much higher quality graphics seamlessly (EQ2) than what NWN2 if offering out of the box.
Just hoping for so serious engine patches...
