suggestions for cleric / x build?
suggestions for cleric / x build?
I'm putting together a death domain/trickery cleric build that will focus on undead summons. all the necro focus feats + mummy dust for some interesting summonation action.
I'm pretty much going for a support/caster build with about 35 levels of cleric. what would make a good second class for those other 5 levels? my usual build would go cleric/monk/zen archery but I'm trying to get away from that and do something a little different.
I was thinking 35 cleric/5 monk dual wield kama githzerai, but that might be a little light on defense for a frontline build (no shield). I could do 5 rogue instead, and do heavy armor/shield/sneak attack.
any ideas or suggestions for a minor class? I could even see doing only 30 cleric but that's as low as I want to go there.

i'm not sure i'd exactly recommend it, but if you're focusing on undead summons and casting you could do worse than Magic domain.
You get ice storm, which while no IGMS is a half decent direct damage spell, and importantly you get negaburst, which does does double or even quadruple duty as direct damage and strength debuffer (with your necro focus helping with save) and summon healing and strength buffing. as a bonus you also get mage armour, which while not a big boost for PCs, boosts summon AC by several points.
OTOH compared with Travel domain...
A subrace with SR is sort of a waste when you're a major class cleric, as you'll have nearly as good or better SR from the spell anyway.

thanks for the ideas. I'm pretty much set on death as a domain for the uber summons, since I've never really played a summons based character. I know travel is uberness itself, but if i had to choose between that and trickery (imp invis) i gotta say imp invis wins hands down. especially since i'll be investing in auto quickens to offset the lack of haste.
I'll take a look at the races you mentioned, it hadn't occured to me to get at least some concealment using race powers.
magic might be a contender too, i hadnt thought of the neg energy burst angle. especially since i'll be teaming with a friend who's cooking up a ridiculous pm build, so we're starting off in mystral ascendancy and going for the army of darkness concept.
but it's real hard to turn down ii, especially in the later levels.
thanks for the concepts, keep em coming. I'm an old ns35 hat but I've only been on ns4 for about a week.

mix bard.
go higher than normal int for skills and cheese out tumble and discipline.
and if u want ii buff up your umd.
I'm sure u can find a arcane crafter *cough* me *cough* to make u some ii wands.
or even rouge. u won't get discipline but u still get tumble spot and umd. not to mention evasion.
either way u can go 35 5 and cheese it out every 5 levels from 17 up and max tumble discipline spot so on

bard looked good, but the stats are a little hard to manage (need charisma and wisdom and everything else). maybe 30cl/10 bard to get a passable bard song? the bard song table looks ok at 10th and might not suck too badly.MasterYoda wrote:mix bard.
one thing i was thinking about is 30 cleric/5 rogue/5 sd (or 30-35cl/5-10sd), death domain, necro feats and then use the summon shadow ability out of sd. anybody know if the cleric domains/feats apply to your summond SD shadow? that could be weird and cool. shadowy angel of death sneak attacking/hips/buffing.
or would the shadow be eclipsed anyway by mummy dust or animate undead?

Heh. I'm a druid. We're the only primary casting class that can't get any of the fun buffing spells.

oh i know well the joys of haste and perma haste. however playing some other "hard to get haste" mods has taught me patience.kingfatzo wrote:once you had fat, you will never go back![]()

I'm cooking up a 32 cleric/8 bard build that should end up with expeditious retreat + auto quickens to lessen the sting. keen weapon eventually (martial weap prof for rapier), etc. and a bard song that wont suck too badly. aasamir for race. could be cool. the bard spells will get dispelled easily but we'll see how useful it is. go for divine might/divine shield to take advantage of passable cha.
