Cleric Magic Domain and arcane items

I made a post in a seperate thread about prue class bonuses for clerics.. this is not that thread.. rather I would like to propose the clerics with the magic domain should be able to use arcane items. by arcane items i mean rods / wands/ mage staffs/ and MAYBE arcane scrolls... ok.. discuss

precisely how does this make sense? Magic may not be the best domain but it's hardly a bad one. Clerics can scribe their own scrolls from their own spell set, why let them be mages as well?
If you want to use this stuff just multiclass into rogue and invest in UMD (and i know that those pooor pooor clerics only get 2 skill points per level, tough).

perhaps a better idea is a crafting station for clerics similar to the mages crafting. instead of mm wands you make heal wands. instead of staffs you make holy water sprinkler? ( morning star) instead of the mage necklaces youy make holy symbols that add ac vs undead outsiders ect ( dependant on level of crafter) instead of rods how about some large and tower shields with a bonus spell slot or something. just an idea

Heal Wands wouldn't fit it. More of....healing potions.

Heh, good point. there's your divine crafting right there - half of the cleric (and druid) buffing spells can just be imbued into potions.

OTOH arcanist spells are usually offensive, and unless you have a godlike persuade skill it's unlikely you'll get someone to drink your Fireball potion, so they have to make wands instead.

i would much rather prefer seeing certian scrolls being looked into when it comes to scribing them .... certian ones give an error when a scribe is attempted -- not sure if this is an intentional block on the scroll itself or an error overlooked long ago ....

there are times that i would enjoy crafting certian oddball scrolls :wink:

as far as heal wands ? -- eeeh....potions as well as healing spells are usually plentiful enough .... a cleric with extend spell has the ability to memorize 12 or so greater restortations if he or she really wanted to, not to mention the effect of full heal potions and the ability to already craft those...

cleric wands...hmmm might b cool for low levels, but nonetheless, i dont think clerics need anything more or less than what tehy have they are fairly balanced already...

I always see noobs crying for a Cleric in towns because of disease etc.
Maybe it's time to bring in some clerical apprentices that charge for da $$$.
