Question about the PvP rules, what constitutes camping?

Post by Squikker2001 »

Issues with specific people should always be sent to a DM. If you have general questions thats fine post away but the he said she said wont be productive.

not sure what was posted above but in general camping is fully allowed and has rules regarding this.

its called the area takeover / coming back for more rule.

if someone is activly pking u in the same map and is not moving and u continuesly try to get past him and fail then the 3 every 6 hours rule is void.

usually when someone does a take over like this they will usually announce it over shout giving players a chance to not go that way.

only amping not permissable is spawn camping inside of spawn areas.

now there are bosses and / or loot that can be found near spawn points. pvm is allowed here but pvp is not.

for example.

I am in sleeth and I go in the spawn area to kill guards. if I see a AO toon I must let him pass.

in the event of a accidental pk u must raise immeadiatly.

this is all found in a pvp thread somewhere ill see if I can find and bump it.

Wouldn't the 3 pk rule apply even in a take over situation? Say as an example I take over the Dark Forest area. If I pk'd a player trying to get to Ogre Pass three times wouldn't I then be obliged to let him pass on his 4th attempt? I really am curious since I have always kept count and often left well enough alone after a 3rd pk as well as I have fallen victim to such take over attempts. Then would it be considered wrong to log and bring in a toon that will erradicate the squatter?

no, they may camp an area and kill you indefinitely if you keep coming back to the same area.

The server is huge. It is your own responsibilty to go somewhere else if you dont want to be pked.

Though, on a side note, ive found that if you just keep coming back, they quickly get bored with killing you, (especially if you're significantly lower level) and they leave.

It all depends on how it happens.

Say someone takes over giant mountain and you get PK'd, so you got back over and over again and get PK'd everytime, you can keep that pattern up all day long and we wont touch the guy. Then he gets bored and moves to the old trade route at the same time you get bored and go the same way, he PK's you again, that counts as number 2.

Now lets say an hour or so later someone puts a shout out that the PKer is being beaten down and you go running to help. This is could be viewed as hunting in which case it would be you who would draw the warning even if he killed you again when you showed up.

We try to look really hard at the intent and actions leading up to an event when dealing with enforcing any of the PvP rules. They are in place to protect the community from the extreme nutjob PKers, but still leave alot of room for PvP action.

only camping not permissable is spawn camping inside of spawn areas.
I think it's a bit more restricted than this. In the past it's been that you're not allowed to prevent someone from 'leaving their spawn area'. Normally this is just the area with the rift shard, but it also means you're not allowed to camp the only exit from it and other such things.

It *can* also be more generic, for example taking over Neversummer Mercantile or City Gates has earned a hand slap in the past, because it prevents level 5ish players from getting to *any* levelling ground (as they can't go through the badlands yet). Same would apply for the gates outside Sleeth or (theoretically) Garagoth.
Since the player base has expanded and the guilds have become prominent this hasn't been a problem though, as the only place i can think of where it applies is faction cities, and then those with high levels can merrily relog and exterminate them.

I believe the answer to this is Yes, it is wrong. Irritating as it is, even if your intention is public service it smacks too much of revenge logging. it's better to let someone else take care of the problem.

In the case of an area takeover, aren't the invaders supposed to broadcast their intentions?

Also, I didn't respawn and keep coming back because I did know they wouldn't be harassing me if *I* kept coming back, but rather the other way around. Besides, I had just come off the dragon and hadn't had a chance to bind yet, and going back over and over would just be a waste of money with my crappy, screwed up build vs multiple lvl 36+ slaves.

Ultimately ppl should just stop whining and complaining, and just play the game.

Play the game, if someone comes along and pwnz j00, go find some where else to play.

If you keep going back to the same spot and getting killed by the same person, then stop going there.

Just recite this line to yourself when you get pk'd: "I am not the center of the universe, I will not always win, I will not get all emotional and cry about being pk'd because in the end I am only one of over 5 billion people on this planet and I am not THAT important, I will carry on and not be a wuss" Then find some other place to play on the server, it's a big server.

So what, your fictional character got killed in a GAME. It's not the end of the world, shut up, stop whining, and get a life.

You know I am right. Have the back bone to follow through on what I say.

Jester I agree with you. And you won't hear me usually whine about being PKd, unless it's by Kromix of course ;).

But some rules need clarification. Ie. I was convinced you had to shout when you occupied an area. Now Chase tells us it isn't needed.
Thus you may camp as long and whatever you want?

Generally if u are taking over a area u dont have to tell anyone....

If someone keeps comming back to u and u keep killing them that should eb the first clue.

I have in the past taken over a area and let the dms know over the dm channel.

Announcing it just makes it fun for all the do gooders around to come smote u away :)
