Computer problem

Background: Power supply went crack-boom-flame a month or so ago. Got a replacement under warranty.

Put the new power supply in a couple of days ago (Sunday?).

This morning, when I turn the computer on, the CPU powers up, but the monitor displays a "No Signal" message. After the initial flash of lights on powerup, the keyboard and mouse do not appear to be receiving power. CD drive does appear to be receiving power--it's activity light flickers. There sounds like there's a quiet beeping sound coming from the inside of the computer. I shut down/restarted (via power button) several times, no change.

Haven't opened the box up yet....this just happened this morning.

Ideas?

Got lots of ideas. Using your description it may be locking on POST because of no video card (smokie the circuit card).

Check your connections, card seated, power cables that arent being used arent touching anything, ect ect. If that doesnt help see if you can get a POS vid card and see if you can boot with that.

As TGPO sugjested ... make sure your Vid card is in properly. IF this is the case then try taking it out and booting with the monitor plugged into the onbaord video. If its still not showing anything try messing with the ram sticks. take one out - boot ... take the other out - boot ect.

I'm assuming if the computer was beeping at you when you turned it on you would have stated so. If it was beeping then you might wanna fish out your manual and look up the beep codes. might be the processer or ram.

to bounce off of what was already mentioned : the first thing i always reccomend is check to be sure everything is plugged in, sung, and tightened properly....all too often things that seem to be broken or messed up can be fixed by somthing so simple as to reconnecting a wire that came loose....i look back at all the wasted hours on ripping somthing apart only to find the poroblem to be somthing a complete n00b could fix.....

If it is not the video card then it sounds like you may have fizzled your motherboard, which if your power supply ignited like that then it is a strong possability. If the lights are coming on and/or flickering, and it seems like it is powering up but nothing is happening then you may want to consider the board. At this point you may want to check with the company in which your computer is under warranty with and see what they say.

No warranty, this is a frankencomp... tower, keyboard, and monitor are from '99, everything else has been upgraded at least once.

Got the cover off when I got home from work--hard drives are not spinning up when I turn it on. The beeping noise I thought I was hearing was a fan in the power supply.

I was running fine last night with the new power supply, so I doubt it is causing the problem.

If you have a volt meter, grab it and check your device power connectors (the 4 pin buggers). If your power supply is making a beeping noise you prolly got issues there. If not, yank the PS back out and take it back for a bench test, if they wont do one return it for cash refund NOT A NEW ONE, and go to a different place to buy one.

Noises from PS is no good. If you think its OK and you have access to a vol meter make sure your getting your 12Vdc at the connectors (easiest way to see if your getting ANY power) with your HD's not spinning up, I doubt you are. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, take the PS back and let them troubleshoot it.

Power supply was mail-order. Like I said it worked yesterday... the beeping I thoought I heard was high-pitched whine... with cover off it is constant & comes from fan spinning (which should be ok, listen to a jet engine).

Logisys power supplies stink. I guess that replacement lasted less than 48 hours?

Glad we could help. Personally I like Lokeys theory on power supply shopping, the heavier it is the better it is.

As a general warning, dust can be a major annoyance as well, although this'll really depend on where the computer is (like what region you live in, and where the computer physically is). My old power supply was choked with dust, and my comp just lost power repeatedly at random intervals - extremely irritating, and it eventually corrupted my boot file lol. Solution: make sure everything's running fine, and there won't be any problems to exacerbate.
