What's the best way to maximize my spellcasting capabilites yet keep some combat abilities for my Wizard/Sorcerer?
And what level mix? I was leveling evenly, but that doesn't work well. I concentrated on Wizard, because there are more spells available.

I had a short sword wielding svirfneblin (but coulda done it as halfling even betterl) 16/4 wizard/rogue with finesse that between empowered stat buffs, DR buffs, haste, tensers, darkness and sneaks could happily go toe to toe solo with a lancer in melee at 24. Add a bigby's interposing to them and she could do 2.
Not really a tank, but she could ankle bite with extreme prejudice.
Not something i'd recommend for PvP though, but being able to deal damage without using spells gives much more endurance PvM.

personally if u get greater pen (considring u are taking only 20 levels of wiz I don't think u can take epic pen) and have 20 caster levels u might be ok.
the average player multiclasses and rarely goes past lvl 30 -35 so there sr shouldn't be too high.
on the other hand if u do come acros lets say a pure build cleric/druid/monk ur going to have a difficult tome laying spells on him.

If you take a level of any class after hitting epic, you need to make sure to have 5 levels of that class.
