Hunting Areas

Post by Drunken Dwarf »

Hello.

I have gotten my character to 20th lvl in the 4 weeks I have been playing on NS4, mostly solo and mostly by killing the Giants.

But recently I have run into the "solo wall", that dreaded place where I am exploring more and more, but running into death around almost every turn. On my path to 20th I probably died 5 times (conservative player). But since I have been looking for a new hunting ground I have died no less that 10 times in the last 3 days. Death usually comes quickly as I enter a new cave, check out the first monster and then get slaughtered. Which is fine. That is what exploring is all about.

However I am getting a bit ... blue about the all of the deaths. So I thought I would come here and ask those who have the years of experience to shed a bit of light on the best areas to hunt.

My character is a 20th cleric/fighter/wm with mostly drop equipment (nothing above 13th lvl).

I suppose the easiest way is to use the Shout channel and ask for a party, but I really enjoy the game playing solo.

But I ramble.

If you have any suggestions, or can point me to a previous post I would appriciate it.

Thank you.

First of all you need to find new equipment. Try raiding other faction's cities for the gear that the bosses drop. This will at least give you a foot up when you go to tackle epic mobs. Most factions have mobs around CR 16-19 so you will still be getting xp for them as well and you will get to know the server a bit better by exploring. You can try Sunken City by taking the Black Hills, Windale, Grey Shores, or Highland Ferry but eventually you want to go to Frost Dale. Falme has a daily ferrys to FD and for a resonable price. Frost Dale has many areas designed for characters from 16th level through late 20's that can be easily soloed. Ice Trolls are a good place to start at CR 19 then eventually moving up to Ice Efreets or even Ice Giants. If all else fails find a [DCN] member to help guide you through some of these areas. We also sell gear if you can't find any 16th level plus gear on your own.

unfortunately as creature levels are hidden, without someone with experience to steer you right you'll invariably pick a lot of fights you can't win.

If you mem lots of elemental protection you can try the Efreets in Frost Dale. I haven't actually tried Ice Giants in a while but I hear they're difficult to solo now 'cos they come in such large groups.
You'll still get decent xp at faction cities, but with guild presences at an all time high it's risky, and as i don't suppose you have enough cleric levels for True Sight you can be jumped easily.
I'd personally recommend you cautiously pick off Epic Amazons one at a time at your level. Good luck finding them without a guide though.

Edit: Actually MLoki's suggestion of Ice Trolls is a good one, I forgot they were back.

if u go to faction cities I would recoment NC not to pick on them but they have a good drop rate for gear. although most is prob lvl 13 there is a boss in a room who drops pretty decent lvl 16 stuff.

also not sure what yer wm in but gnolls also is decent if u want to solo.

just remember when u solo u don't kill em as fast and some areas aren't meant to be completely soloed.

loot me up in game if ya need help.

meh. gnolls will give nuts all xp at level 20, but it is a good spot for getting level 16 equipment, the boss heavy armour and shield are quite nice.
faction cities are also good for level 16 equipment, as yoda says, Daeron especially for HA and shields.
the all time best place for level 16 stuff is sunken isle, but the mobs there are CR19 and above, so i suspect you'll have trouble taking the bosses alone.

Unfortunately most good gear is dropped by creatures much higher than the level you can use it at, so if you want the best equipment there are few solutions besides ganging up on them.

Thanks for all the feedback. Great info. Hopefully the next time I will be asking for places to solo at 30th lvl ;)
