Wisdom books
Clarifying my clarification:
It seems to be a problem with stats that are decreased because of the subrace selection. It doesn't appear to happen with stats that are increased because of subrace, nor those decreased due to base race.
Can people please post the subrace and stat so we can confirm?
I've had no problems at all so far. I havent used books on many subraces yet, but have had no problems with +2 con and int books on half-ogres.

Right.. as Myrdyr said, and to make things sparkling clear -- It seems to be:IcemanXV wrote:If its a bug, its not 100%.
Like i said, I'm an assimar (+2 wis, +2 cha) and i used a +2 cha book to perfect success.
---> SUBRaces that have a NEGATIVE 2 to a stat using a +2 book on that stat (or stats)will do nothing, and a +4 book will actually do +2.
I have used a STR and CON book on a race that had a +2 STR and +2 CON and they both worked fine, it was the 2 races that had -2 int that the +2 int books did nothing.
Now what I'm confused about is how draco only got a +1 increase from a +4 book?!
Can anyone in the DEV dept. please give us something on this?? Even feel free to PM me and tell me what time (EST -5:00) you will be online and I can confirm, and bring in some toons to test.

this quirk only applys to leto subraces the standard ones get the bonuses just fine. EG i have a shield dwarf who used a +2 cha book and it worked fine. so the problem is in the leto script vs the books script

Stat books
Well just for the record... The original problem was that a +2 wisdom book had no effect on an aasimar character. After much time and confusion it appears that it was some sort of bug. I think they are working on it. DD actually fixed it I think on the original character.
I am still hoping for a definitive answer before I use a +2 STR book on a half ogre.

Vastly confused

This has not been my experience with a Githyanki build; I was able to successfully apply both a +2 INT and a +2 CHA book. Sounds like we do not yet have the symptoms of the problem nailed down yet.SUBRaces that have a NEGATIVE 2 to a stat using a +2 book on that stat (or stats)will do nothing, and a +4 book will actually do +2.

This very odd, especially when it's happening to pure humans as well...havelot wrote:This has not been my experience with a Githyanki build; I was able to successfully apply both a +2 INT and a +2 CHA book. ohwell... i guess to save DMs babysitting manual-reading, the devs could increase the drop frequency for manuals a tiny bit to compensate for a seemingly unknown 50% failure rate... and just expect failures to occur as if it was pre-planned for that to happen. (just sux for me cuz it's slightly nerfed 2 of my builds so far that had to make up for the book failure by either using levelup stat increases or substituting a different feat).
NOTE: In my offline testing, I've had problems increasing stats with debug commands... but only for some stats, sometimes. ie: I exported a letoed ghostwise halfling test character, with a lowered wisdom from 14 to 12, and was unable to SetWIS 14 .. this did nothing! SetWIS 15 set the wisdom to 13, and SetWIS 16 set the wisdom to 14.... very odd behavior.

Resurrection
Oh darn here I am resurrecting an ancient thread that I started in the first place.
The books are much improved, but I had a very strange thing happen with a half ogre on reflection. I used a +2 cha book on him and guess what.... lost 5000 xp and didn't raise the CHA no big deal he's hyram the wannabe paladin with a 7 charisma a fun character to play but that +2 charisma could have made such a big/small/irrelevent difference. Is there still an occasional problem showing up with using + books on characters with natural negatives on a stat?
(Sorry fatz dont read this, I know you hate resurrected threads go read my bearded bard post instead.)
