New Time Stop

Post by CrazyJ »

Timestop spell now actually stops time! (only in that area) Effects hostiles, not friendlies. A Time Crystal (now dropping in the wild) is required to cast the spell.

Duration is 1 round, greater focus in Transmutation gets you an additional round, and concentration over 60 will get you an additional round. So, max duration is 3 rounds.
GOOD implementation.

I used to balance games for fun (Red Alert, Tiberian Sun) but I've gotta say the NS4 crew is better than I ever was.

I cast my applause in with CarzyJ's. The team is doing brilliantly.

i don't think it should be useable on scrolls....i use rogues and i think it would be nasty for a single round of mobs doing nothing but taking damage. not to mention the cheesy cleric/fighter/rogues that could deal out massive damage in 1 round.
if i didn't do it...someone else would have.

first time i made a SD/rogue it was on a test server you could buy timestop scrolls on. needless to say between 3 of us having umd whoever got timestop off first was the one who won. would you want my assassin to plow all 31d6 sneaks into you while you helplessly die?

No, but I imagine that you'd enjoy it.

Perhaps a will save or something to resist being stopped in PvP?

Well, seeing that if you cast Timestop from a scroll, and it takes a round to cast, and it lasts 1 round - how long do you think you'll have to attack your target?

you can still get 60 concentration without much loss to the build for 2 rounds duration...and if it doesnt effect allies, then you still have all of them to beat on a target freely.

trust me...you don't want timestop on a scroll. i'll own you or one of those tLB cleric/rogue cheese builds will own you.

exactly...2 rounds to catch up to a target, get free hits on them with them unable to do anything and at minimal AC. im unsure if time crystals are 1 time use or not but i hope they are. a mage with a 3 round timestop, or even a 2 rounder, can basically get a free kill with IGMS spam...not to mention 31d6 sneak attack..

Yeah, time crystals are consumed in the use of casting the Time Stop spell. A couple possible ways of controlling the effects - reduce the drop frequency of Time Crystals, make the crystals much heavier, or reduce/randomize the duration of the time stop a bit.

Try the spell out for a while and see how it goes.

Speaking of drop frequency--why don't Thieves' Tools above +6 drop any more? I used to see up to +12...
