Faction communications

Anyone ever think of adding a way to broadcast text to all members of your faction?

Seems like this might bring each faction together a little.

Is the whisper channel used for anything? If not, would it be possible to set that for use as a faction-wide or alliance-wide channel?

As a DM, I would be very against changing the Whisper channel. Its fun to use it for RP purposes.

I've only seen it used once in my entire time of playing here.

If I am not mistaken, the whisper only carries a few feet away (maybe to anyone on the same tile; that would make sense, right?). If you're not in a party with someone you're traveling with and you are trying to get by a few mean PK'ers without notice, then it could potentially come in handy.

Or, yeah, for the RP aspect.

ehe everyone in a faction could form one massive party and lag the crap out of the server -- erm bad idea....it is quite possible that in-fatction chat to some faction members may be irrelivant --and may become nothing more than trivial shout channel spam.....there we have the function of guilds, so that a guild can represent their faction and help bring order to their faction, not needing a socialist-esque channel....

----and to digress-----

the sole purpose of the whisper function is to broadcast your bodily functions to players around you without having to alert the entire server...

example;

a whispered fart or burp is much more appropriate than one that is regurgitated in party chat -- or worse -- on the shout channel ....i feel bad for those of us who are in FD fighing ice giants in the depths of their frozen lair when suddenly they hear a vast rumbling in the distance...before they know it the roof of the cave is falling in, and the ice giants are being killed by falling stalagmites, giving you no xp whatsoever
