updating to 3.5 rules?

Post by Cthulhu Drega »

i just wanted a general overview of peoples opinions if this would be a good idea or not to make a more complete upgrade to the 3.5 rules

here are some major and minor changes from 3.0 to 3.5

Major changes

* The ranger class has a smaller Hit Die, more skill points, and many new class abilities. ( back to d8 i believe and added bow abilitys )

* Some high-end monsters (notably the balor and pit fiend) were altered to make them more powerful and thus warrant higher Challenge Ratings. ( this is being tweaked still as far as the summons go )

Minor changes

* The ranger and bard receive more skill points per level. ( i dont know if this can be used in NWN )

* Bards do not suffer arcane spell failure when wearing light armor. ( i know alot of people will like this but agian i dont know if its possible )

* Druids can cast summon nature's ally spells spontaneously, just like the cleric's spontaneous casting. ( i kida like this idea but druids realy dont need mutch more as they are quite nasty as is )

* Some player races gain Weapon Familiarity, which allows them to treat exotic racial weapons as martial for proficiency purposes. ( eg. dwarves can use dwarvin waraxes )

* Sorcerers and bards can change known spells infrequently. ( agian something i dont know if it can be done in NWN )

* The gnome's favored class changed to bard. ( i do like this one alot seeing as there is no race with bard as a favored class. alot of other PW's often allow both mage and bard as a favored class for gnomes, this would also help the RK folks a bit i think )

obviously not all of these can be implimented in NWN but some i do like like the ranger and bard changes especaly

Edited some of the non NWN applicable changes to make it easyer to read

yes it can be converted to 3.5, i know Remy converted aantioch reborn to 3.5 either fully or really close to completion before he got taken in by bioware, and it worked amazingly, he did use hacks and stuff but the main thing is that it will be a pain in the behind to do it. so i really doubt the devs will do it. and with the approach of NS5 which will be 3.5 they might just leave this server as a 3.0 and worry aabout the balance and stuff of this server.

some other ideas i had about the gnome favored class. how about making a subrace split like rock gnome illusionist and rock gnome bard basicly just add the rock gnome bard subrace to the gnomes that way its only one race to add and it brings it up to 3.5 standards while keeping the already ingame fav class mage version.

I just can't imagine a gnome singing  . I mean, they'd sing so fast it just wouldn't make sense wether they were cursing you, doing a normal song, or threatening to steal your socks :? . I personally think Gnomes belong as wizards, because they spend a lifetime of 300-500 wizards studying things like wizards.

I do like that Weapon Proficiency for Dwarves. I have no idea why Bioware forgot to allow all Dwarves to use Dwarven Waraxes, but we also have no idea why they did some of the things they did  .

let the devs finish to do what they are doing and when they say, ok we are done and getting bored of doing nothing, then toss this stuff to them, but as far as i know they still have some 'soon' to be finished work to do.

Most of those ideas can't be done in NWN - too hard coded. There's 1 or 2 there that have been talked about for pure class bonuses.

But, for true 3.5 enjoyment, I'll direct your attention to NWN2 which is doing a much better job of adherance (Rangers are looking sweet!).
