AFK/ Morning DM (EST)
i have noticed that in the mornings EST from 6ish to noon there is quite a fiew AFK people. while this is a slow time for the server and the slot they take istn that important it is however adding to the overall lagg. now im not talking about being afk for a min or two i mean hours like they fell asleep or whatever. this trend is becoming more prevalent and compounded by the lack of DM presence during these hours. i fully understand people have lives and jobs ect but it seems to me with a coupple of the staff taking time off to go to school or whatnot a DM needs to be found to fill these hours.
perhaps a set schedual for the staff? based on work or other RL demands or just find a person whos on during these hours on a regular basis to have atleast limited DM abilitys like boot and a reset. this would help the early day croud alot especaly the lag that seems to build up at that time.
as allwase thanks for your time

Well I actually dont care much about those, dont think they add that much too lag, as they do literally nothing. But if somebody is occupying a slot when the server is full, and leaves the character standing for a considerable time, because it fears ie. that it wont return. Now that has to stop.
But then again, NS3 hasn't many players with common sense. Well at least the shouty part isnt. Might be that Im doing the silent ones an injustice. Don't think that it will be regulated by the community itself. The Wrath of the Gods is needed here, if they have time of course.

Well, first of all, we DMs are a slovenly and slothful cadre of loafabouts to start with... waking up at 6am Eastern is a punishment best reserved for eternal damnation!
But considering that that is quite early in general, when I pop in to check out the server in the middle of the night or anytime before noon Eastern in general, there's usually some number of people on falling between 15 and 30. With the hardware upgrades that came in during the switchover from beta to open release, 15-30 is well within the power of the box to handle without any lag to speak of... even when there's a bunch of lag at midnight and we don't reset it, once the numbers start going down over the early morning, the lag resolves itself and basically disappears until people come back. A couple people idling AFK at times like that really aren't hurting anything since there aren't enough of them to cause a crunch in processing when there's only 25 people on in total anyways.
But yeah, when a toon is AFK and holding up a slot when the server is full, or even at 40-41 people when lag starts to creep up, you can expect one of us to be polishing up the Boot Stick. If one of us says "Respond," you better respond quick if you want to avoid getting the boot axe.

hey fatzo havent you heard the espression the squeaky wheel gets the grease? and as this had more than just a AFK issue involved a new thread isnt that big of a deal. the AFK part honestly is second to the need of a DM on in the early am. yonwe suggests that when the numbers drop below 20 the lagg goes away well this isnt the case it may subside a little but you still get non responsive NPCs and other lag issues.
from 10 am on the lag is usaly quite nasty causing the jumping( like blink dogs) toons and monsters. im shure someone will say go on IRC and request a reset. and while in theory its all well and good but i find more often than not there is no one there either except others who are requesting a reset.
regardless of wether you think this is a serious issue or not it IS a issue that has been going on for ages. im shure the staff will be buryed benath requests to fill a DM slot if they asked for sutch a thing. im also shure they will say they have enough staff at the moment well obviously not if there are more than 5 people clammoring on about lagg and day after day no DM is on during thoes hours to see it or do anything about it.
im not saying that you should stop everything and find said DM now but atleast put it on the "to do" list this is a great server and i love it emmensly but as allwase things can be improved upon this is just one of thoes things.

I agree this issue needs to be resolved. I am new to this server and not only does the lag give a bad impression, but it also makes it impossible for me to continue. I need arrows to continue fighting and the npcs wont talk to me, so i cannot buy more.
This is a game breaking issue for some and it really needs more attention.

oh shure i would but i think i would get more hate mail than chase and i dont want to steal his thunderBlystos Re wrote:...And, wait, don't tell me...you would be more than happy to volunteer to be this DM as you are active at this time anyway, right?

i would also like to point out the lovely irony of yonwe replying to this thread yet not logging on to see if we needed a reset ( im shure he was at work or the like where he couldent tho )

I'm on the forums on the time, but lately haven't been on the server as much (been playing a different game mostly). They're two entirely different things.Cthulhu Drega wrote:i would also like to point out the lovely irony of yonwe replying to this thread yet not logging on to see if we needed a reset ( im shure he was at work or the like where he couldent tho )
I don't see this issue being too high up on the To-Do List. SL, TC, and AO are up their at the Unemployment Agency begging for jobs is probably number one at the moment so don't expect it to budge anytime soon.
