interesting...
Well, I wasn't thinking of run-of-the-mill weapons so much as those that are truly exceptional (relative to NS4 standards). I won't act the part of a spoiler; suffice it to say I learned after my first melee toon to build around certain weapons...

rapiers are cheesy now too?
id love to see a list of non cheese builds and wpns.....

Cheesy is more a state of mind. most ppl think that anything comon is cheesy and since rapier is the most used finesse weapon it falls into that category.algol333 wrote:Celorn said-

for unusual choices look at the katana, the handaxe, sickle, and double-weapons.

Yeah, I've been thinking of making a double-sworder... unfortunately the only non-generic double blade at 20+ is an artifact.
The challenge is in how to build such a character. Right now the best I've come up with is Ranger/Fighter/WM. If TC allowed Rogues I'd swap Ranger out for a few levels of Rogue and some extra Fighter. I could do bard, but that'd give me yet another stat to spread points onto, plus arcane failure. If I went heavy on fighter and added in some Monk levels I'd get free feats, Tumble AC, and only a hit of 1 to BAB (4 monk by 20). Getting WM with 2-weapons is doable without Ranger but eats feats.
2 weapons needs STR for damage, but Ranger needs Dex (no Bull Str, plus wearing med armors). I could go full-dex but my AB and damage would suffer since they aren't finessable. Lots to juggle on such a character, I don't think they are competitive with normal fighters.
Give double weapons the bonus feat of Ambidexterity or ITWF and they'd be a lot more popular.

1.best crit range
2.STR & DEX builds can use it
3.elves can use it without the martial feat
4.the only medium (think disarm) sized weapon that can be finessed
5.there is an easy to get +3, and a +5's unique one exists without fire dmg
6.a good majority of mobs have little to no PIERCE resist
7.a good majority of PCs wear slash protection armor (this could change with the new drops tho) and the best pierce shield is class-restricted.
8.And of course, PMs (especially) tend to use it to level faster with their lower AB they have to rely on crits to get kills faster -- one reason the DH seems to be crawling with them cuz the guardians likely PWN them on the other planes if they try to solo.
Ahhh... actually there are at least 2 unique 2-bladers out there 20 and above, as far as I know, I've found a few of them (tho i think i sold them). There are also 2 lvl20 dire maces and hopefully a lvl25 or 30 one will come out one day... I'd be more interested in a double-axe wielder myself.CrazyJ wrote:Yeah, I've been thinking of making a double-sworder... unfortunately the only non-generic double blade at 20+ is an artifact.
