Ferry Locations

Post by mgrjebbo »

I know i read something deputy wrote about his willingness to change some ferry locations. After reading that the first thing that poped into my head was Black Hills/Windale. These two locations are both connected to each other and conected via sunken isle.

My opinion is with all the changes that are and have been taking place, it would help new player exploration alot if the ferry connection between sunken and either black hills, or windale were removed, and one for Haddon Mirk put in its place. So sunken would either take you to black hills, grey shores, highlands, and Haddon Mirk. Or windale, Grey shores, Highlands, and Haddon Mirk.

IMO it would make alot more sense if it were Windale and not black hills removed from the sunken connection since more people travel to Ave via blackhills than windale, however there are already 2 ships setup in Windale and only one in Black hills so i belive it to be eaiser to go the other route.

On a side note i couldnt help but noticed that the Northern coalition has a port. Any chance there will be a ferry man placed there any time soon? Maybe to the circle somehow, seeing as they are allies and allies do trade.
It would also help the defending dynamic, if say an NC player saw the circle being raided he could just jump a ferry to go help them out right from his home city. and visa versa..... just a thought.

Could also juggle the ferries around so that there's a ferry to Sunken and FD for each set of factions: that is 1 each for each location for NC/TC, RK/AO, MA/SL and LA. Right now, LA doesn't have a ferry for Sunken in it's own territory (though Black Hills is close), and two ferries to FD. It's the opposite with NC/TC, two ferries to Sunken, and none to FD, and Falme is a longer trip for them than Black Hills is for LA.

Small problem: TC is landlocked... but there's nothing really to our west to prevent the ocean's borders from changing.

A ferry to Haddon Mirk would be nice.

I'd always assumed NC and TC were connected by the crystal caves. Speaking of which, those caves could use some inhabitants to kill...

Crystal CaveS? I'm only aware of one, where there's all the pixies and dryads and stuff... far as I know it never went anywhere or had any purpose besides being an unusual area to explore (ie I went there once and have had no reason to go back).

i suggested a NC/TC portal in the crystal cave that takes you to the crossroads where the dryads/pixies are locacated next to that shrine.
if i didn't do it...someone else would have.

Yeah, a cave-to-cave portal could be good. Crystal cave just south of Daeron to a cave...oh, maybe in Melencia Forest somewhere?

Hmm I like that idea. A portal in the cave on the nc end and doing a similiar cave on the tc end. Would allow nc and tc newbies 2 place to explore and not force nc to fight undead all the time.

if it's quick and free it'd also be handy for city defence too. a major problem TC and NC (certainly TC) have had in the past is that their restricted class list means they need to cooperate in a way that other factions don't really.
i don't suggest a similar thing for other alliances as they're not nearly as close-knit as TC and NC anyway.

mind you the TC class list has been opened up massively, so it's less of an issue now.

I was always kina confused about how the Windale ferryman could figure out how to get to Sunken and the Black hills where the Highland Ferry man couldn't seem to navigate across to Greyshores. Perhaps these 4 ferrymen could be linked up so that they can all travel to each other and sunken to allow newbies to explore these other areas without having to go through sunken first. Also if Grey shores only went to Sunken and the NC and MA ports allowed travel to FD it would make a big difference in both those factions. Perhaps bring them into the relic race a bit more if these ferries were a bit more connected. It would also give NC and MA another way out of there isolated areas if they could simply hop the ferry from Highlands/Greyshores and go to the Black Hills or Windale.

Not quite as easy for NC as for TC... the animals are hostile to them, and bears can be a problem for lowbies.

Heck, why just limit the crystal cave to an NC/TC connection? The Underdark areas are spread all throughout the lower end of the map, why not have them extend a bit northward linking up not only to the caves, but also extening over to AO territory, perhaps coming out in the Wold.

After the NC/TC connection, I think the highest priority would be some kind of tunnel or portal system for MA.

I'd love to see a TC/NC highway, though I'm not sure about connecting it to the underdark in southern Aetheria. My thought is that it'd be best to keep it simple, as a TC/NC short-cut.
