Neutered wolves?

Post by Poet »

With the lower cr on the wolves now I surely hope they no longer have their hideous breath. If they still do it would warrant skipping Frostdale completely except to run in and get an ice amy and never come back. Look out Zons and Giant Mountain...you are going to be full of people now! woo hoo!

Actually I don't think Zons are are even going to be worth it either since I've seen several groups of 20th level characters going into zons and getting destroyed recently. Not to mention the Zon bosses don't seem to be dropping anything at all now except perhaps the Champ who always seems to leave his Lance behind. Sunken may be another option but with only the one way in and out I always seem to be passing another group coming or going even as it is. You can always head all the way down to Haddon Mirk, or Gnolls or even try your hand in Duskhaven for the same CR mobs as Arctic Wolves but it certainly isn't as convenient as hoping a ferry to FD. Perhaps the idea is to populate these remote areas more but Giant Mountain is probably going to take the brunt of it. It's proximity to stores and having it's own Bind Point certainly makes leveling there easiest if it weren't so crowded. If other stores and bind points were opened up in the more remote locations this may allow players to explore a bit more. This would mean that they would not be too far away from getting the gear they need to level with and it would make the run back to those areas after dying much less time consuming. I believe this may be the only way to take the strain off of Giant Mountain now that Arctic Wolves are no longer a viable option.

I agree, if the breath isn't weakened then nobody's going to FD until about 18 for giants.

The problem for all the other areas at level 10+ is that they are very far away, so travel time makes getting a party together difficult, and recruiting new members to keep it going pretty hard too. Inconvenience is reduced fun.

Maybe they'll put in an ice troll cave, CR 15-19, just outside of FD?

You sure? I just left the Zons and my team got the slave axe, the queens axe, the champ lance, alot of slave rings, and a golden mithril scimitar. I think you just have bad luck.

Duergar, Yuan-ti, Haddon-Mirk, Bandit-HQ, lesser Amazons and lesser AO Disciples, Formians, Duskhaven, Gnolls, Rock Peak, Niragawa, South Road Tower, Undead Minotaurs...and more.

Utilize the dragon transport in Avendell or Ferries to take you in close proximity to most of these locations. I could be talked into putting some kind of transport to Haddon Mirk area - that's about the only one that's not covered.

Arctic wolves were never meant to be a 'get from level 8 to level 18 for free' area. A gross oversight on our part letting them go this long.

Ferries going out are still non-level limited.

Except that the wolves and Giant Mountain have always been faster with XP gain than these areas...that's why no one bothered with them. Better CR spreads too, and less annoying caster mobs.

Duergar? Isn't that under Formians?

Most of the areas mentioned are relatively small compared to FD; hunt them once, and after that you ahve to go somewhere else for a while. Running time != fun.

I have tried repeatedly to locate the Niragawa and have been unable to.

The Black Woods/Fens/Marsh could be a good area to add something for levels 6-15 into also. Last time I was there, I spent a good half hour running around with a companion and we were unable to find much... just a very occasional monster, and nothing particularly interesting. Kinda annoyingly noisy, too.

Maybe put an underground passage between Haddon Myrk and the Black Fens? IIRC reachable from Evenshire, so not too far from Ave, and would give a good route to H.M.

To each their own but, for me even with less xp maybe, I have more fun fighting different creatures then ogres and giants for endless hours.

Yeah, but try getting a party for that. Like I said, try even FINDING some of them? After about 20 minutes looking for Niragawa, knowing to within 4 zones wher they were, I gave up. Haven't tried again.

Back to the wolves for a sec--CR 10 is far too low. They will kill a level 18-20 character who does not have evasion and bludge resist... yet he gets no xp for killing something that's a mortal threat.

" - CR of Arctic Wolves lowered to 10. (They were never meant to be a leveling ground, just a nuisance.)"

You changed the CR. I disagree, but it's your decision to make. Let's just be honest though. Frostdale spawns VAST amounts of wolves. Don't insult us by saying they weren't originally put there for some xp.

It's the bears that are the nuisance. Not many of them, but enough to keep you on your toes except in Durrena where the wolves are the main attraction.

Yeah that was my main concern when starting this post. Perhaps their breath weapon could be taken away to bring it down to the CR 10.

I agree that the lack of xp for killing a mortal threat, is a whole heck of alot more than the "nuisance" it is being described as.
