ok i didnt read the rest of this i stoped after the "wizards are useless" line
WTF are you insane? mages are the most killinist toons on the server and the game for that matter no other build can kill whole mobs with 1 spell ( yes implosion is nice but no not even close)

to say that mages are crap is rediculess and shows to me that you realy need to work on your mage skills. now ill admit a mage cant solo very well at low levels but once they get to about 10th level there is no compairison for pure destructive output of a mage. honestly druid is the next closest thing to the power a mage wields to dish out damage but youll prolly say they are weak too.. anyway maybe ill read the rest of this before i go on

Um just summon a balor and let it tank. Combined with some bigbies(even the new ones) and some fingers or wails mages do just fine.

And when they pvp its pretty tough to kill them unless you get the jump on them.

New players should worry about high ac, gear and attack bonus. Or find some friends.

Found a new build that is uncommon but does extremely well.

Subrace Earthgen
Monk 10 assassin 30.

5 levels of monk to get the hide/move
Then 10 of assassin Then 5 more monk to get improved knock and improved evasion and a little speed and the attacks.

The rest just go assassin.

I put points into dex wisdom and int.
about 14 wis +items is a nice ac bonus
Max dex all the way.
14 Int + items is great for skill points and the dc for the death atttack.

Any creature you can knockdown and that is vuln to sneak you can paralyze. Especially giants.

The drawback is undead and elemental types or pesky planar dwarves that wont knockdown. These you need a party to work on.
Any critter that your is atatcking your friend your death attack fires just like sneak. The difference is you paralyze.

At dex 25 and 30 tumble you get blinding speed which is old school haste.
The earth gen gives you huge ac bonuses and dmg reduction later on.

Up in the high lvls I was up to 60-65 ac and 40-45ab with items and earth gen ability.

You also get 6 attacks because of monk and going unarmed and extra when you use flurry.

Downside maybe pvp where your ab may be too low on big ac guys.
But the death attack will take a char out for a long long time. So if you can get one off or knock em down you win.

Maybe focus more on unarmed with erpic focus and prowess.
Dont forget the weapon finesse to use dex.

Just one of my personal favorite builds ive tested lately.
Besides rdd/bard/barb and pure wiz of course.

I have started an assassin and was under the impression that the death attack (paralysis effect) only works when not in combat. I know this because when attacking the gargoyles in Wyrmwood i can paralyse when they first break but after if I get a sneak attack from the knockdown I get no paralysis save roll in the logs just the usual floating * sneak attack * message.

So I don't believe you can death attack a knockdowned creature DeputyDog. Unless I am doing something wrong lol

Cheers
