weak monsters
I would like to see a system where weak monsters (ones that will give you no xp) have a chance of fleeing from a high level toon. It could be based on CR relative to level, so that monsters that are just below the threshold for your level would have only a small chance of fleeing, but monsters that are totally weak, like rats and beetles, would almost always flee from a lvl 20+ char. It is very annoying to have to run through the lowbie areas around your home city and be chased by a huge pack of rats. Is this possible?
I've thought of that as being a cool, more realistic idea....
BUT... i think they have cut down all the 'extra' features of the server to keep the lag down, and throwing a bunch more AI subroutines in there isn't going to help any.
Instead... why not try going invisible? works for me... 99% of 'weak' mobs can't see invisible things.

Not everyone has invis at their disposal. I have been thinking about this for sometime. Would it be possible or even practical to have a token that only higher level toons might buy that would have a fear aura? Affecting the lower level creatures that have no chance of hitting nevermind killing you. I find it intriguing that a creature that has no ability to harm you has the ability to draw you into combat and make attacks of opportunity. The token wouldn't take any extra scripting on the AI's part as it would be working just like a buff. Just my two cents worth.

From a storyline perspective, if the monster denizens of Aetheria can also never die, like the PCs, they have nothing to lose trying to take you down even if they recognize you as the one that has killed them many times in the past. Or maybe that's why they never let up. You probably showed them no mercy.

although you may not die in aetheria... the processes that lead you to death(i.e. being impaled on a sharp object) are still quite excruciating and would therefore be something that most individuals would want to avoidPeregrineV wrote:From a storyline perspective, if the monster denizens of Aetheria can also never die, like the PCs, they have nothing to lose trying to take you down even if they recognize you as the one that has killed them many times in the past. Depends on the mob. Rats run away from humans as an instinct that they are a predator. Some mobs wouldn't care, as they're pretty much mindless, but low lvl humanoid mobs should have the brain to at least know "man/woman with glowy sword = bad".DeputyDog wrote:Monsters would lose xp or "Life Experience" just as you do. So they could flee, but I dont think its in the capabilites of the engine for a mob to see how powerful you are. Perhaps.
It's called Terrifying Rage and it works great on lowly mobs that wish to beat themselves to death against your sword... My barbarian always leaves a wake of paralyzed mobs while traveling through lower level areas.Lorkar1 wrote:Not everyone has invis at their disposal. I have thinking about this for sometime. *edit* hmm.. maybe an artifact that grants that feat at a lower level to keep away 1st to 8th level mobs or so. Terrifying Rage only paralyzes if the affected creature is lower level then you so it could be scripted to work at 9th level or so.
The Invis Dust and the Invis Pots that drop relatively frequently should be enough to satiate your needs for being ignored by low levels mobs. All in all, your suggestion would be a nice addition to have, but our Dev's are working on other projects that will serve to benefit the server more than being bothered by mobs that can't harm you anyway.
Serving NS4 proper as Lathander and Sleeth as Bahamut.
Yes, I'm a DM, but your build still sucks.

They don't drop NEARLY as frequently as they did before the wipe. A whole trip through a dungeon (sunken or etc) netted me 5+ dusts. Now I'm not even guaranteed 1. Potions drop even less than that.Sparky wrote:The Invis Dust and the Invis Pots that drop relatively frequently should be enough to satiate your needs for being ignored by low levels mobs.
