Well Hanz usually when you go for a long walk and especially later when you are a bit more experienced you have some cleric at your right shoulder or a rogue i.e. at your left that has some resurrection spells for that occasion.

I would find it bad if some portals would pop up all over the country. Maybe if you entered a secret mage guild in Garagoth or earned yourself a high position among the drow clerics. But certainly not for low lvls.

you can ask some cleric to make you a couple res scrolls. and dont forget to take a rogue or bard lvl for UMD.

You are right, beta will not last forever...but it will set the pace that everyone will be playing later.

recall stones and rift points in this particular mod might not jive story-wise. isnt the main plotline all the factions trying to figure out how to manipulate the rifts? if there are working rifts everywhere and recall stones, it kinda blows the entire backbone for the story to hell.

plus its extremely munchkin.

why not recall stones?

like once use items that cost x amount and it takes you back to your bind point. (can't use in combat etc, maybe have it like a dialogue thing)

or, if there is an area where everyone wants to travel because maybe there is a good boss there who drops good stuff, and if this area takes a long walk to get to, maybe the devs should make it so you can buy "tokens" every time you go there that transport you back. and maybe there should be a building in town where you can pay to be transported to other places that take a while to walk to, but only if you have already been there before and killed someone who drops something that marks that you have been there (like a "rune" or something).

the point is that walking is something that makes the world believable as a world and not as just as an infrastructure for killing things. anything is powerful as a recall stone, even one that is onetime use for an xp cost and a huge gold cost, stretches the believability of the world to its breaking point. especially in light of caldessian's point that the entire backdrop of the world pertains to the uncertain nature of interplanar travel and other forms of teleportation that have all been thrown out of whack by the planar rifts. what would be cool would be something like broken portals and recall stones from the time before the planar rifts that used to work properly but now have a percent chance not to work at all and if they do work port you somewhere random. that would be fun :D

Lack of haste i don't mind, but recalls are definately needed. A lack of +str items, mixed with bunches of loot of mobs such as the goblin king(3+ sets of plate anyone?) make walking back a nightmare, and often i just get killed to shorten it.
The xp system is fine imo. It's slower, it actually takes some skill imo, as you have to work on pulling, knocking down, healing, etc. However, more starting mobs are definately needed, and some more mobs for 5-10 lvl players are needed imo as well. I don't mind travelling thru 2 areas when xp'ing, but making a whole circuit of the forest is stupid, and makes for a waste of space. Also, my starting levels were terrible and goblins hardly respawned. I've noticed this has changed, but there still is only one real newbie area near TC that's of any decent size, and adding a newbie cave with similar stuff and maybe one goblin warrior at the end would be good.
