ok guys- server 1 has been having this duno bought others. when it happens, you can either reboot comp. (slow but sure) or, you can do what i do. load a different server (i use server 1 so i load 2) and then you will zone to server 1 back to last location.
Here are my experiences in case they are of some value to the devs. I played quite a bit over the course of a couple of days, and I'd say I got stuck in the grassy loading screen about maybe 20 times. If after say 5 seconds I wasn't automatically transferred to the game I would just hit ESC, exit the module, and then try to connect to a different server. If a similar result occured, I would repeat until a server finally let me in. I was always able to enter the game, if not on the first try, then usually on the second or third. The need to try a different server usually occured when the the server I was playing on went down (obviously) or if I lost connection to the game during a zone transition between servers. If a server went down while I was playing on it, sometimes the other servers would give the "your CD key is in use" error. For some reason, with repeated attempts I could usually find a server that didn't give me this error message (within say 30 seconds of the crash). I also noticed this error was released immediately if the server that crashed came back up. If the server was still down, I was still always able to enter the game, and what would happen is I would enter at the last saved spot where I was on the "old" server (at some point I had adventured on other servers). Here's a typical example of my experience:
My home is LA on server 4. Because of the AB and leveling bug on that server, I would often try to adventure in the orc caves and Underdark (server 2 i believe). If I couldnt find monsters there I would then head from the underdark to the dwarven tunnels (server 1). One time I was fighting a big strong dwarf in their tunnels I think named Hairy Beast or something like that and he was kickin my but when server 1 went down. After a couple relog attempts I ended up in the Underdark at the entrance to the dwarf tunnels (the last spot I was on server 2 before transitioning to server 1). I'm not positive on this, but I think in most cases all or almost all of the items and exp earned on the server that crashed managed to get saved. I have to say I was very impressed with how the character database handled these crashes and that my gameplay was never interrupted for long, even if one of the servers went down. Also something to consider is if this could be an area for exploitation if say a battle is going poorly and a character exits and tries to login to a different server. Or maybe not, I'm not sure if this situation only happens if the server you are on actually goes down.
Anyway maybe this info helps in some small way. Also, I think the server and character storage system is very nice, and will undoubtedly get even better as the bugs are hammered out.
